Full Job Description
*Securian Financial Group’s internal position title is Engineering Senior Analyst.  **Position Summary:** Securian Financial, a financial services firm based in downtown St Paul, is looking to hire a full-time software engineer on the Core Claims team. The Core Claims team is responsible for all parts of the claims process (notification, adjudication, payment, etc.) for all our markets. The successful candidate will be an experienced engineer, with full-stack experience.  You will also have strong soft skills along with strong technical skills. You will have the opportunity to learn about a variety of business markets, various technologies, and develop relationships with team members. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and committed to continuous learning, able to solve tough problems, and work in a team environment. **Responsibilities include but not limited to:** - Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions supporting Core Claims systems, including claims intake, adjudication, and payment processing across multiple markets. - Build and enhance Java-based applications and services, following established engineering standards and best practices. - Develop, consume, and support RESTful APIs used by internal and external systems to integrate with Core Claims platforms. - Write, optimize, and maintain SQL Server queries, stored procedures, and data access logic to ensure data integrity and performance. - Collaborate closely with product owner, business analysts, quality engineers, and other engineers to deliver high‑quality solutions in an agile environment. - Participate in code reviews, ensuring readability, maintainability, performance, and security of codebases. - Support production applications, including troubleshooting issues, performing root‑cause analysis, and implementing fixes to meet reliability and availability expectations. - Contribute to continuous improvement efforts, including technical modernization, process improvements, and adoption of new tools or patterns where appropriate. - Use GitHub for source control and collaboration and JIRA for work tracking, estimation, and sprint planning. - Effectively communicate technical concepts, design decisions, and issues to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. **Qualifications:** - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field of study, or equivalent experience in IT or a related technical or engineering field - 3+ years of software development experience required - Experience developing specifically in Java - Experience creating and consuming API’s. - Experience with SQL Server - Strong communication skills (verbal and written) - Ability to learn quickly and independently - Experience with Github - Experience with JIRA **Preferred Qualifications:** - Excellent research and debugging skills - Ability to work independently - Ability to collaborate with teams at all levels - Prior Claims experience - Prior Securian Financial experience - Experience developing in JavaScript - Experience with AWS #LI-Hybrid **This position will have a hybrid working arrangement, working in-office for a minimum of 3 days a week.**  Preferred Skills: Agile Methodology, Application Integrations, Cloud Computing, Enterprise Software Development, Java APIs, Java Software Development, Java Spring, REST API Development, RESTful APIs, RESTful Web API, RESTful Web Services **The estimated base pay range for this job is:** $72,000.00 - $134,000.00 **Pay may vary depending on job-related factors and individual experience, skills, knowledge, etc. More information on base pay and incentive pay (if applicable) can be discussed with a member of the Securian Financial Talent Acquisition team.** **Be you.
