Full Job Description
As a Software Engineer on our Communication Integrations team, you will build end-to-end features-from designing robust data models to implementing the subtle interaction behaviours that make great software feel effortless. You'll own how work in Asana connects to the tools millions of people use every day, including Slack, Microsoft Teams, and email. This is a high-impact surface touching nearly every Asana user, where you'll partner closely with product managers, designers, and engineers across the company to ship reliable, performant, and delightful integrations.

This role is based in our Vancouver office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. If you're interviewing for this role, your recruiter will share more about the in-office requirements.
What you'll achieve
  • Own and ship features across our integrations portfolio, including Slack, Microsoft Teams, email clients (Outlook add-in, Gmail add-on), and browser and workspace extensions, from design through production.
  • Lead small-to-medium projects end-to-end: breaking down requirements, authoring design docs, aligning cross-functional stakeholders, and driving work to a successful launch.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex bugs across distributed, multi-surface environments, and build the operational rigor (monitoring, alerting, runbooks) to prevent them from recurring.
  • Participate in our on-call rotation, responding to incidents across our integration surfaces and ensuring reliable, performant experiences for users on external platforms.
  • Partner with PMs, designers, and engineers on partner teams to iteratively clarify requirements, surface edge cases early, and deliver customer value with velocity.
  • Contribute to the long-term health of the codebase by identifying and addressing technical debt, improving test coverage, and advocating for code quality standards on your team.
  • Grow your scope by taking ownership of areas within our integration surfaces and mentoring newer engineers joining the team.
About you
  • Demonstrates curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making
  • Experience building and maintaining integrations with third-party APIs or external platforms (e.g., OAuth authorization flows, webhook pipelines, or notification systems), and a solid understanding of the operational realities that come with them.
  • Ability to operate independently on well-scoped projects, navigating ambiguity, identifying missing requirements, and proactively surfacing trade-offs before they become blockers.
  • Writes clean, well-tested, and well-documented code, submitting PRs that are easy to review, logically structured, and backed by clear reasoning and reproducible test plans.
  • Communicates effectively with cross-functional partners, keeping stakeholders informed, knowing when to escalate, and connecting your work to the team's broader goals.
  • Approaches debugging and incidents with rigor, showing comfort digging into unfamiliar systems, isolating root causes, and driving durable fixes.
  • Takes full ownership of the lifecycle of your work, from initial design through production maintenance, including follow-through on operational improvements.

At Asana, we're committed to building teams that include a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, as this is critical to helping us achieve our mission. If you're interested in this role and don't meet every listed requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
