Software Engineer

Position Summary

Advanced Technology Systems Company (ATSC) is seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer to design, develop, integrate, test, and maintain software solutions supporting advanced aerospace and defense systems. The Software Engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop reliable, secure, and high-performance software applications that meet Department of Defense (DoD) customer requirements and mission objectives.

The ideal candidate possesses strong software development skills, analytical problem-solving abilities, and experience working throughout the software development lifecycle in a highly regulated engineering environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, implement, test, and maintain software applications supporting aerospace, defense, and mission-critical systems.
  • Research, evaluate, and apply software engineering principles, computer science concepts, and mathematical analysis to develop innovative software solutions.
  • Analyze customer requirements and technical specifications to determine the feasibility of software designs within established cost, schedule, and performance constraints.
  • Collaborate with Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, and Hardware Engineers to define software architecture, interfaces, and system integration requirements.
  • Design software systems using sound engineering practices, modeling techniques, and object-oriented design methodologies.
  • Develop software for embedded systems, desktop applications, web-based applications, or system-level applications, depending on program requirements.
  • Create and maintain software architecture documentation, interface control documents, technical specifications, and design documentation.
  • Develop unit, integration, system, and regression testing procedures to verify software functionality and performance.
  • Perform software debugging, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure software quality, maintainability, and compliance with established coding standards.
  • Support software integration, validation, verification, and customer acceptance testing.
  • Assist with software installation, deployment, configuration management, and field implementation activities.
  • Consult with customers and internal stakeholders regarding software functionality, enhancements, maintenance, and technical support.
  • Develop and maintain software documentation, user manuals, release notes, and engineering reports.
  • Support proposal development, technical planning, and software effort estimation as required.
  • Participate in continuous process improvement initiatives and Agile or traditional software development activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
  • Experience developing software using one or more programming languages, including:
    • C++
    • C#
    • Java
    • Python
    • C
  • Experience with integrated development environments (IDEs), source control systems, and software development tools.
  • Experience developing and executing software test plans and test procedures.
  • Knowledge of software lifecycle methodologies, including Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or aerospace programs.
  • Experience developing embedded software or real-time systems.
  • Knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Experience with Git, Azure DevOps, Jira, or other configuration management and issue tracking tools.
  • Familiarity with software modeling and design tools.

  • Experience with AI, real-time performance monitoring and/or diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering processes and requirements management tools.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
