Full Job Description
Join the team building EvenUp's AI-powered document generation platform - one of the company's core AI products. The DocGen team is responsible for designing and building the backend systems that power how legal documents are generated, helping personal injury attorneys produce high-quality work more efficiently and at scale.

You'll own complex technical problems from design through production, working on document generation workflows where AI is a core part of the solution - not an afterthought. You'll have the opportunity to influence architecture, shape technical direction, and partner closely with Product, Design, and Applied AI to deliver meaningful customer impact.

This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy building scalable backend systems, thrive in fast-moving and ambiguous environments, and want the autonomy to take ideas from concept to production. Engineers on DocGen are trusted to make technical decisions, drive projects end-to-end, and help shape the future of one of EvenUp's most important products.

What you'll do:
  • Design, build, and maintain backend services powering EvenUp's document generation platform.
  • Own projects from technical design through production launch and ongoing iteration.
  • Build scalable systems that leverage AI within document generation workflows.
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, and Applied AI teams to deliver customer-facing features.
  • Drive architectural decisions and contribute to the long-term evolution of the DocGen platform.
  • Improve performance, reliability, and scalability of core backend services.
  • Mentor teammates through technical discussions and thoughtful code reviews.

What we look for:
  • Strong software development experience, with hands-on expertise in Python or languages such as Go, Java, Node.js, or C++.
  • Proven ability to design and ship scalable, production-grade systems, including APIs and distributed systems.
  • Experience owning projects end-to-end in fast-paced, high-growth or startup environments.
  • Bonus: Experience with AI-powered applications, legal tech, document generation systems or social impact-driven products.

This is a hybrid role, with an expectation of being in our Toronto office three days per week.
