Full Job Description
"I can succeed as a Senior Manager, Portfolio Construction (Software Development Manager - Senior) at Capital Group."

As the Senior Manager for Portfolio Construction, you will lead the engineering organization responsible for the Tools and Insights capabilities within Risk-Aware Portfolio Construction (RAPC). Your teams will build the experiences that help investment professionals understand portfolio positioning, evaluate risks and opportunities, and model potential actions with confidence.

You will serve as both a strategic leader and a hands-on engineering coach, responsible for shaping the roadmap, developing talent, improving execution, and ensuring the organization delivers reliable, scalable solutions that create meaningful value for investors. You will partner closely with Product, investment professionals, and engineering leaders across IG Tech to align priorities, translate strategy into execution, and continuously evolve the capability.

A core responsibility of this role is building a high-performing engineering organization that can scale. You will strengthen operational excellence, modernize engineering practices, improve delivery predictability, and create the architectural foundations needed to support future growth. Your leadership will help RAPC evolve from a collection of capabilities into a cohesive platform that enables investors to make better-informed decisions.

"I am the person Capital Group is looking for"

  • You have strong partnership instincts and are comfortable shaping strategy, co-owning roadmaps, and aligning technology investments with business outcomes.
  • You possess a deep understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including distributed systems, cloud architecture, APIs, testing, observability, security, and operational excellence.
  • You have experience building products that combine investor-facing experiences with underlying platforms, services, and data capabilities.
  • You have experience with investment workflows, portfolio construction, risk analytics, performance measurement, financial data, or other high-stakes decision-support environments.
  • You are able to navigate ambiguity, connect detailed execution issues to broader strategy, and synthesize complex information into clear direction.
  • You establish discipline and accountability while empowering teams to innovate and operate effectively.
  • You use agile and metrics-driven engineering practices to create transparency, improve delivery predictability, and drive accountability for outcomes.
  • You have strong communication skills and can engage effectively with engineers, Product, investment professionals, and senior leaders.
  • You develop engineering managers, technical leaders, and senior individual contributors, creating an environment where people can grow and thrive.
  • You take a pragmatic approach to problem solving, balancing long-term architecture with near-term business needs.

What You Will Lead

Vision, Strategy & Roadmap
  • Define and evolve the long-term strategy for RAPC's Tools and Insights capabilities in partnership with Product and business stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain a clear roadmap that balances investor value, technical sustainability, and organizational capacity.
  • Drive alignment across teams and capabilities to ensure delivery efforts contribute to a coherent long-term vision.

Execution & Operational Excellence

  • Use agile and metrics-driven engineering practices to improve delivery predictability, organizational effectiveness, and accountability for results.
  • Establish operating mechanisms that provide visibility into roadmap progress, organizational capacity, delivery health, execution risks, and outcomes.
  • Establish a culture of operational excellence focused on reliability, quality, performance, supportability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure teams consistently deliver solutions that are secure, maintainable, and production ready.

Engineering Excellence & Architecture
  • Establish scalable engineering practices that improve quality, reliability, and delivery speed, including automated testing, observability, automation, and effective production support.
  • Guide architectural direction across RAPC's Tools and Insights capabilities, promoting reusable components, shared platforms, and solutions that can evolve with investor and business needs.
  • Champion AI and agentic engineering practices across the software development lifecycle to increase productivity, strengthen quality, and enable teams to focus on higher-value work.
  • Ensure technical investments support both current business priorities and the long-term evolution of the platform.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Partner closely with Product and business stakeholders to identify opportunities, validate solutions, and prioritize investments.
  • Engage directly with investment professionals to understand workflows, gather feedback, and ensure the organization remains focused on delivering meaningful outcomes.
  • Collaborate across IG Tech and partner organizations to deliver integrated, end-to-end capabilities that serve investors effectively.
  • Communicate strategy, progress, risks, and trade-offs clearly to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Culture, Talent & Leadership
  • Build and develop a high-performing organization grounded in trust, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Coach engineering managers and technical leaders to operate effectively across organizational boundaries and increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Foster a culture that encourages curiosity, innovation, constructive debate, and shared ownership of outcomes.
