As a Software Development Manager in Hyperplane, you will lead a team towards building a new platform which implements new features within AWS VPC, and making it work at extraordinary scale. In this role, you will provide technical leadership, solve complex software problems, and make impactful trade-offs between short-term and long-term results. You'll think in terms of architecture, not just code, and will help elevate our ability to build and operate high availability systems worldwide.
With us, you will provide leadership and management for a development team to innovate and deliver core control plane software required to support EC2 Networking organization. This is a hands-on position that requires broad engineering competence and in-depth technical knowledge of control plane software development, DevOps roles, continuous integration, infrastructure tools and distributed systems, as well as demonstrated experience in planning, organizing, refactoring, and conducting software development projects in a dynamic environment.
A successful candidate is comfortable in a leadership role and seeks to mentor and grow less experienced engineers on the team. You understand customer obsession and live and breathe operational excellence. You know when to partner with and influence other teams to deliver results. You will emphasize hiring and developing the best talent at AWS.

In this role, you will manage one or two two-pizza teams. You will drive the technical direction, foster team culture, grow engineers, deliver exciting features and world class software defined control plane solutions to internal and external customers.

About the team
The Hyperplane organization builds and runs a global software-defined network, powering products such as NAT Gateway, Transit Gateway, AWS Network Load Balancer, and more. As a foundational network service, every day the team designs for and solves problems at an unprecedented scale.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
