As a Software Development Engineer IV, you will play a critical role in delivering highly complex, enterprise-scale solutions by providing deep technical leadership, architectural direction, and hands-on engineering expertise. This role combines advanced software development skills with strong communication and leadership capabilities to guide teams, influence technical decisions, and ensure solutions align with Premera's strategic objectives, standards, and regulatory requirements.

This is a hybrid role, located on our campus in Mountlake Terrace, Washington.

What you'll do:
  • Define and drive AI-enabled DevSecOps automation, including solution design and implementation of fully automated CI/CD pipelines for application and infrastructure delivery (IaC).
  • Lead initiatives in AI-driven quality engineering, observability, monitoring, and AI-assisted operations to improve reliability, productivity, and delivery flow.
  • Provide technical leadership to drive engineering excellence, governance, and quality gates across teams.
  • Define, design, and implement complex features with a focus on architecture, quality, usability, performance, and data-driven decision making.
  • Partner with business and IT leaders to identify and solve complex, cross-functional problems and improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with development teams, architects, business partners, and customers to translate requirements into high-quality technical solutions.
  • Participate in live site operations, including incident response, production support, and continuous improvement of service reliability.
  • Serve as a primary engineering and implementation partner, ensuring clear, timely, and effective communication across stakeholders.
  • Oversee code reviews to ensure compliance with Premera standards, architectural guidelines, and best practices.
  • Provide vendor technical oversight, including code review and sign-off, to ensure quality outcomes and effective partnerships.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and analyze delivery metrics to identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Train, enforce, and evolve governance processes to ensure compliance with enterprise standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate technical and architectural documentation is completed, including SDLC artifacts and production change records.
  • Act as a technical leader and mentor, sharing knowledge across teams and contributing to the broader Premera engineering community.
  • Stay current with technology trends, best practices, and business needs, continuously evolving expertise and mentoring other engineers.


What you'll bring:

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • (8) years of software development experience with strong knowledge of the software development lifecycle and proficiency in one or more programming languages.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing and delivering cloud-based solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps (Boards, Repos, Pipelines, Wiki).
  • Experience with Azure AI/OpenAI, including RAG patterns and prompt engineering.
  • Strong observability and operational excellence mindset.
  • Experience in healthcare or other highly regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with Premera technologies (e.g., Facets), where applicable.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Experience with API and service-based architectures.
  • Experience building or using automated testing frameworks.
