Software Development Engineer II – EDI

Job Description Summary

As a Software Development Engineer II, you will design, build, and support applications that power Premera’s Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems. You will work in an agile team to deliver reliable, scalable solutions that support electronic claims and eligibility services for providers.

This role is ideal for an early-career engineer who enjoys problem-solving, building quality code, and working closely with teammates to deliver business-critical systems in a regulated environment.

This is a hybrid role, located on our campus in Mountlake Terrace, Washington

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with business and technology teams to understand requirements and design effective software solutions
  • Develop, test, and maintain applications using modern development practices, including CI/CD and automated testing
  • Write clean, maintainable code using technologies such as C#, .NET, SQL Server, XML, and JSON
  • Participate in agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement of team delivery and processes
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues, including participating in on-call support as needed
  • Contribute to testing efforts, including unit testing and test automation
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and SDLC artifacts
  • Collaborate with team members to meet delivery milestones and provide input on design and implementation decisions
  • Support standardization of development processes and follow enterprise engineering best practices
  • Demonstrate completed work, gather feedback, and iterate on solutions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field — or equivalent experience
  • 1–4 years of experience in software development or related technical roles
  • Experience with .NET and C# development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Azure or cloud-based applications
  • Exposure to API and service-based architectures
  • Experience in an agile development environment
  • Familiarity with automated testing tools and practices
  • Experience in healthcare or a regulated environment
  • Exposure to EDI systems or healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR)
  • Familiarity with additional languages or technologies such as Python, JavaScript, HTML, JSON, or XML
  • Experience using AI-assisted coding tools

  • Strong foundational coding and debugging skills
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot moderately complex technical issues
