Job Summary

With limited direction, this position exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives for the review, research, design, development, and/or solution to advanced technical engineering problems. The role heavily emphasizes cybersecurity, information assurance (IA), networking, and adherence to Department of Defense (DoD) standards. Candidates with Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) qualifications or equivalent certifications are preferred. Communicates with engineering professionals, solution users, and management throughout the solution development cycle, represents the company as a prime technical contact on contracts and/or projects, interacts with senior external personnel on technical matters requiring coordination between the organizations, and participates in the development of new or expansion of existing business.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Function in an advisory or project leadership role to provide direction to experienced professional staff in implementing cybersecurity measures across all phases of system development and deployment.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD IA policies, including the integration of security controls, validation procedures, and risk management frameworks (RMF).
  • Develop and maintain secure network architectures, including routers, switches, firewalls, virtual private networks (VPNs), and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
  • Formulate long-term plans for the development, documentation, and deployment of solutions that meet cybersecurity compliance, reporting, and operational standards.
  • Evaluate system configurations to ensure adherence to Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and DoD cybersecurity policies.
  • Communicate with engineering professionals, solution users, and management throughout the solution development cycle, representing the organization as a prime technical contact for contracts and/or projects.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation, testing, maintenance, and engineering updates are completed for all systems.
  • Plans for future applications of solutions based on new developments in engineering technology.
  • Participates in or may lead the development of new or expansion of existing business opportunities.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in computer science, information systems or related discipline and progressive software development experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, ten or more years of experience with a masters degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
  • CISSP highly desirable. Additional certifications such as CCNA, CEH, or CompTIA Security+ are a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies, standards, and guidelines, including DISA STIGs and RMF processes.
  • Proficiency in configuring and securing networking devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls, as well as troubleshooting network security issues.
  • Familiarity with cryptographic solutions, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), and secure communication protocols.
  • Expertise in DoD cybersecurity architectures and frameworks, including TEMPEST countermeasures and network defense strategies.
  • Experience with cybersecurity workforce training and qualification programs in alignment with DoD policies.
  • Ability to evaluate and validate security implementation specifications for IA-enabled products.
  • Strong understanding of DoD Component cybersecurity programs and their integration into acquisition processes.
  • Familiarity with the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Workforce Framework and role-based cybersecurity structures.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity cryptographic research and development, including coordination with NSA and DISA.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals; the capability of representing the organization as a prime technical contact; and, the ability to provide leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
  • Must be customer focused and able to work on a self- initiated basis or in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • A Professional Engineering License, original work(s) published in professional engineering journals, invited to present one or more original works to an engineering symposium, and invited and/or participated on an engineering review panel are desirable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance is required.
