OverviewBruker is looking for a Senior Development Engineer to work on our next generation Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) products for academic research and industrial type customers. This position requires strong initiative, effective cross-functional teamwork, a hands-on approach, and deep technical expertise. Preferred candidates will be self-starters with the ability to set goals and achieve them with minimal supervision and have a high level for attention to detail. This position is onsite and based in Santa Barbara, CA.
ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities of the position include:
- Provide expert user input to the team during design, testing, and deployment phases
- Define, implement, and document experimental methods to evaluate performance of AFM prototypes and accessories in different operational modes
- Analyze data and produce detailed reports and product specifications based on results
- Propose and implement solutions for performance, function, and usability type issues
- Develop automated methods to streamline testing efficiencies of routine tasks
- Create new and novel customer application solutions using AFM core technologies
- Support technical writers to generate content for manuals and customer documents
QualificationsRequired qualifications include:
- Requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD degree in the field of Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Biology or Engineering
- Previous experience in AFM, nanoIR, nano-mechanical, nano-electrical research and measurement preferred
- Peer reviewed publications in AFM or related technical fields preferred
- Experience with scientific instrumentation, data analysis, measurement methods, and testing
- Experience in hardware & software product development for commercial products preferred
- Experience with AFM instruments, modes, and applications preferred
- Ability to make decisions, and effectively lead tasks and meet challenging deadlines
- Ability to build strong relationships and effectively partner with others
- Ability to multi-task in a rapid paced environment
- Ability to perform technical tradeoff studies
- Strong communication abilities, both verbally and written
- Strong Computer Skills: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Hard working, team oriented, curious, creative, and committed to quality
Work Environment- Typical office and laboratory work environment.
- Occasional work may be required in Class 1000 clean room with full gowning protocol.
Physical & Environmental Requirements- Normal visual acuity and hearing.
- The ability to lift and move equipment up to 30 pounds.
At Bruker, the base salary is part of our total compensation. The estimated base salary range for this full-time position is between $86,400 and $153,500 and provides an opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base salary for the role will depend on several job-related factors, including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, the geographic location of the successful candidate, skills, competencies, job-related knowledge, and travel requirements for this position.
