Site Superintendent
ICI Commercial Construction | Hamilton and Niagara Region
Compensation: $95,000 to $115,000 + Company Vehicle and Gas Card + Benefits + RSP
DeFaveri Group is seeking an experienced Site Superintendent to lead the day-to-day delivery of commercial construction projects across the Hamilton and Niagara Region.
This is a hands-on field leadership role for a Superintendent who knows how to take ownership of a job site, coordinate trades, manage schedules and solve problems as they arise. You will oversee projects valued at approximately $10 million to $20 million, including new ground-up construction, additions and work involving foundations, excavation, underground services and complete building construction.
You will typically be the lead Superintendent on site, working closely with the Project Manager and directing a team of subcontractors and trades that may grow to 50 people. On larger projects, you may work alongside additional Superintendents as part of a broader site leadership team.
What You Will Be Responsible For
- Lead and coordinate all day-to-day construction activities on site.
- Manage projects from site preparation and foundations through construction, closeout and turnover.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and site personnel.
- Develop short-term work plans and keep trades aligned with the overall project schedule.
- Review drawings, specifications, schedules and contract documents.
- Identify potential delays, site conflicts and construction issues and take action to keep work moving.
- Monitor workmanship and conduct regular site inspections to maintain quality standards.
- Coordinate material deliveries, equipment requirements and site logistics.
- Enforce Ontario health and safety requirements and DeFaveri's site safety policies.
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Coordinate inspections with consultants, engineers and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Maintain daily site reports, manpower records and other required documentation.
- Track deficiencies and ensure corrective work is completed.
- Maintain a clean, organized and professional construction site.
- Build productive working relationships with clients, consultants and trades.
- Work closely with the assigned Project Manager and provide clear, timely project updates.
What You Bring
- At least five years of experience as a Site Superintendent or Site Supervisor with a commercial general contractor.
- Direct experience delivering ICI construction projects, ideally including ground-up commercial or industrial builds.
- This position requires direct ICI construction experience. Candidates whose experience is primarily in residential homebuilding or high-rise condominium construction will not be considered.
- Experience with projects such as industrial or warehouse facilities, dealerships, schools, churches, municipal buildings or similar commercial construction.
- Working knowledge of excavation, foundations, underground services, building envelope, interior construction and project closeout.
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead an active construction site.
- Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and managing site teams of up to 50 tradespeople.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing and scheduling.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and contract documents.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and Ontario health and safety requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization and conflict-resolution skills.
- Comfort working outdoors and from an on-site construction trailer in varying weather conditions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Experience with Procore, CMiC or comparable construction software is an asset.
- Valid Ontario G Class driver's licence.
- First Aid/CPR and Working at Heights certification are considered assets.
- Residence within reasonable commuting distance of project sites across the Hamilton and Niagara Region.
