Site Project Controls Lead
About the Role
JDS Energy & Mining is seeking an experienced Site Project Controls Lead to lead all project controls activities during the execution of major mining and industrial capital projects. This is a site-based position operating on a FIFO rotational schedule, requiring close collaboration with project teams, contractors, and client representatives to support safe and successful project delivery. The Site Project Controls Lead is responsible for the overall management of cost control, planning and scheduling, forecasting, progress measurement, change management, risk management, and reporting. Working closely with the Site Project Manager, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and contractor teams, this role provides leadership, governance, and strategic oversight of project controls while ensuring alignment with approved scope, budget, schedule, and company standards.

Key Responsibilities
Project Controls Leadership
• Lead all site project controls functions including cost control, scheduling, progress measurement, forecasting, reporting, change management, and risk management.
• Develop and implement project controls processes and execution plans that align with corporate standards and project objectives.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to Project Controllers, Schedulers, and other project controls personnel.
• Coordinate project controls activities between owner, EPCM, contractors, and corporate project controls teams.
• Ensure project controls deliverables are completed accurately and on time while supporting project governance, stage-gate reviews, and management reporting requirements.
Cost Management
• Oversee project cost control systems, reporting, forecasting, and budget management.
• Review commitments, expenditures, accruals, and Estimate at Completion (EAC) forecasts.
• Analyze cost variances, trends, and productivity metrics while identifying corrective actions.
• Review contractor payment applications and validate earned progress.
• Monitor project contingencies and identify potential commercial risks.
Schedule Management
• Oversee development and maintenance of integrated project schedules using Primavera P6.
• Monitor critical path activities, schedule performance, and milestone achievement.
• Review contractor schedules and ensure alignment with the integrated master schedule.
• Identify schedule risks and recovery opportunities while supporting mitigation planning.
• Coordinate schedule updates with engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams.
Progress Measurement & Reporting
• Establish and monitor project performance indicators, including Earned Value Management (EVM) metrics where applicable.
• Prepare weekly and monthly project controls reports, dashboards, and executive summaries.
• Monitor physical progress and productivity against approved baselines.
• Present project controls performance, trends, and forecasts to project leadership and stakeholders.
Change & Risk Management
• Lead the site change management process and maintain the project change register.
• Evaluate cost and schedule impacts associated with proposed changes.
• Monitor project risks, trends, and opportunities affecting project performance.
• Support risk workshops and contingency management throughout project execution.

Qualifications
• Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Project Management, related discipline or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of project controls experience on mining, industrial, or major capital projects.
• Minimum of 3 years leading project controls teams during project execution.
• Demonstrated experience in cost control, planning and scheduling, forecasting, change management, and project reporting.
• Working knowledge with Primavera P6 (required).
• Strong knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM), cost forecasting, and project performance reporting.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with project controls software is considered an asset.
• Professional certifications such as PMP, CCP, PSP, or equivalent are considered an asset.
