Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations of the Valencia site, promoting accountability and guiding problem-solving processes.
  • Facilitate KPI and performance communication through meetings to align site and business unit objectives.

  • Ensure local compliance with federal, state, and company regulations, particularly safety and environmental standards.
  • Plan short- and long-term strategies to align site goals with business unit objectives, including budgeting and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with safety and quality managers to enhance workplace safety and product consistency.
  • Encourage a culture of continuous improvement and integrate engineering projects with site objectives.

Full Job Description
We are searching for an experienced Site Manager to lead our manufacturing plant in Valencia, CA.
SGL Carbon's Valencia site is a part of the Business Unit Graphite Solutions and employs around 90 employees. Our facility focuses on a variety of specialty graphite tailor-made solutions, mainly Petro-Chemical, Space, Energy Storage, and Industrial Applications.
The Site Manager reports directly into a global business team and is responsible for all strategic and operational activities of the Valencia site

What to expect:
Providing leadership for the successful day-to-day operations of the site (creating accountability and leading by example) and guides problem solving processes. Facilitates local communication of KPIs, performance, site and BU objectives through townhall meetings. Promotes performance and value culture plant-wide.
Allocating resources effectively, fully utilizing assets to produce optimal results, and monitoring operations and triggering corrective actions when necessary.
Serves as Local Compliance Representative, assuring compliance with Federal, State and local laws, regulations, and codes; assure compliance with Company policies and procedures; assuring compliance with California OSHA and environmental regulations and reporting requirements.
Long- and short-term site planning, including succession planning, to align with BU strategy, goals, and KPIs. Setting of plant and capital budgets and effectively executing approved plant and capital budgets.
Working closely with the Environmental Health and Safety Manager to promote safety culture and provide a safe workplace for employees.
Working closely with quality and laboratory personnel to review product & process consistency while monitoring scrap rates to determine trends and areas of improvement.
Promoting and encouraging site operations in a continuous improvement environment.
Working closely with engineering personnel to align engineering and technology projects with BU and site objectives.
Serve as managing director and legal representative of SGL Technic LLC

What we're looking for:
Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills.
Strong communication, planning, organizational, leadership and managerial skills required.
Strong problem solving and analytical skills (process data driven mind-set).
Familiarity with regulatory requirements for operating plants/California OHSA.
Knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources).
Strong community steward in representing Company interests.
MS degree Engineering (chemical or mechanical), or a related field. Combination of technical and commercial degrees.
Minimum 8 to 10 years' experience in manufacturing and related production processes. Experience in pulp and paper or chemical industries preferred.
Experience speaking in large group formats internally and to higher level management (such as Business Unit (BU) MC and Board of Management (BoM).
Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) preferred

This position involves access to export-controlled and/or nuclear-related technologies and is subject to applicable U.S. regulatory requirements (e.g., ITAR, EAR, DOE/NRC regulations). Candidates must meet all applicable eligibility requirements. This role requires U.S. citizenship based on regulatory and contract requirements.

Salary Range: $150,000 - $210,000
