Simulation Specialist

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Role:

CoolIT Systems is hiring a full-time Simulation Specialist to join our Quality team in Calgary, Alberta. In this role, you will develop and deploy multi-fidelity simulation models for liquid cooling systems, including CDUs, PCLs, RMs, and chillers, using 0D, 1D, and 3D modeling techniques across fluid dynamics and heat transfer domains.
You will build physics-based and data-driven models that support system design, optimization, validation, and digital twin development for high-performance computing and data center cooling architectures. The role includes creating SIL and HIL models integrated with PLC controllers, assembling full data center simulations from modular building blocks, and working closely with design, controls, and testing teams to validate system behavior and enable data-driven engineering decisions throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop andmaintainmulti-fidelity simulation models (0D, 1D, and 3D) to predict thermal and hydraulic performance of liquid cooling systems
  • Build system-level modelsrepresentingfull data center cooling architectures, including CDU, PCL, rack manifolds, and facility cooling systems
  • Perform CFD and heat transfer simulations on components such as heat exchangers, cold plates, and flow paths to drive design improvements
  • Develop reduced-order models (ROMs) for real-time applications and integration into digital twin environments
  • Design and deploy digital twin frameworks for performance prediction, anomaly detection, and lifecycle monitoring
  • Implement Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments, integrating models with PLC-based control systems
  • Collaborate with controls engineering to simulate andvalidatecontrol strategies under dynamic and transient conditions
  • Support design optimization including pump sizing, heat exchangerselection, and system balancing
  • Develop reusable simulation libraries and scalable modeling frameworks
  • Create user-friendly simulation tools to support internal stakeholders and product development
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, validation, factory test, and field teams to align simulations with real-world system behavior

WHO YOU ARE

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum3+ years of experience in thermal-fluid system modeling, simulation, or product development environments
  • Strong academic foundation in fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing digital twins and reduced-order models (ROMs)
  • Experience working with SIL/HIL environments and PLC-based systems
  • Exposure to data center cooling systems or high-performance computing infrastructure
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, OPC-UA)

Skills:

  • Strongexpertisein fluid dynamics and heat transfer modeling
  • Proficiencyin simulation tools such as ANSYS, STAR-CCM+, GT-SUITE,Modelica, or MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with multi-fidelity modeling (0D, 1D, 3D CFD)
  • Understanding of control systems and dynamic system behavior (e.g., PID control)
  • Ability to correlate simulation results with experimental and field data
  • Proficiencyin data analysis and scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical findings and influence engineering decisions

Benefits

Our comprehensive benefits package includes:

  • Vacation and flex days, plus a paid company-wideshutdownduring the holiday season
  • 100% employer-paid health benefits from day one (dental, drugs, optical, paramedical, and health spending account)
  • A casual yet professional work environment
  • Recognition programs likeThe Big Coffee Break, offeringadditionalvacation and monetary rewards
  • Company-funded RRSP contributions to support long-term financial goals
