As a Silviculture Manager I, you will be responsible for implementing advanced silviculture treatments that optimize productivity, efficiency, and financial returns while ensuring the long-term sustainability of our resources. Through informed decision-making, you will shape both immediate and future forest outcomes, aligning with our mission of Market Driven Precision Forestry (MDPF) and sustainable forest management. By collaborating closely with contractors and key stakeholders, you will serve as a driving force in enhancing forest productivity across your designated area.

How You Will Contribute

We are seeking a professional with a commitment to operational excellence and sustainable practices. In this role, you will be:
  • Precision Silviculturist:You will advance market-driven precision forestry principles through effective silvicultural investment and strategic capital allocation that optimizes financial returns.
  • Operational Coordinator: You will coordinate and implement site-specific silviculture prescriptions, treatments, and activities, utilizing the latest decision tools to optimize processes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Financial Steward: You will support silviculture budget and forecast compilation, while monitoring costs against projections and reporting on quarterly variances.
  • Contractor & Stakeholder Liaison: You will monitor on-ground operations to ensure adherence to contract specifications and build close, collaborative relationships with contractors, adjacent landowners, and public agencies.
  • Collaborative Professional: You will foster a culture of collaboration while maintaining strong partnerships with research cooperatives, adjacent landowners, and public agencies.
  • Data & Technology User: You will leverage decision support tools for financial evaluations and proficiently execute silviculture activity updates within our GIS database.


Key Accountabilities

  • Silviculture Execution: Coordinate and implement all site-specific treatments, including site preparation, planting, weed control, and fertilization. Assist in developing planned activities that efficiently maximize financial returns.
  • Productivity & Efficiency: Drive operational excellence and monitor costs against budgets, reporting quarterly variances as required. Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or productivity.
  • Asset Protection & Research: Implement targeted measures to protect timber and land assets from insects and disease. Support the establishment, management, and measurement of operational field trials.
  • Contractor Oversight: Identify cost-saving opportunities and manage all phases of the contract process to ensure adherence to legal and company standards.
  • Safety & Environmental Stewardship: Embrace Rayonier's safety culture and ensure all activities fully align with state Best Management Practices (BMPs), SFI standards, and regulatory compliance.


What You Bring to the Team

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Forestry or a related field (or equivalent experience); a Graduate degree in Forestry or Business is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of experience in land management, with an emphasis on silviculture and forest management practices.
Technical Expertise: Demonstrated working knowledge of decision support tools for financial and silviculture treatments, GIS applications, data analysis, SFI standards, BMP's, and relevant environmental regulations.
Professional Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • This role is physically demanding and requires a mix of office work and significant field time. Key physical activities include:
  • Extensive walking, hiking and traversing various landscapes, including uneven ground, slopes, wetlands and dense vegetation for extended periods.
  • Carrying equipment and supplies including transporting tools, gear, and other necessary items over variable distances.
  • Sustained physical exertion including engaging in activities such as measurements, tree planting, brush clearing, or fire suppression for prolonged periods.
  • Maintaining stability on uneven terrain, climbing over obstacles, and working in potentially precarious positions.
  • Working outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, wind, and precipitation.
  • Operating machinery, power tools and motor vehicles.
  • Must be flexible to travel within the district.

Our pay range for this position is $70,200 to $105,400 based on knowledge and experience.
