Role description:

We are currently seeking a Signaling Engineer with Light Rail (LRT) experience to join our growing Rail & Transit team in Ontario. This position will contribute to the delivery of complex, multidisciplinary transit projects across Ontario and the wider Rail & Transit organization, supporting the design, integration, and implementation of modern signaling systems for Light Rail Transit infrastructure. The successful candidate will play a key role in enabling safe, reliable, and efficient transportation systems that support sustainable mobility.

Role accountabilities:

As a Signaling Engineer, you will support the design and engineering of Light Rail Transit signaling systems, contributing to solutions that are safe, reliable, and operationally effective. This includes delivering design inputs for interlockings, train detection, and control systems, as well as supporting the development of signaling layouts, circuit designs, specifications, and technical reports. You will also contribute to system integration activities across signaling, communications, traction power, and rolling stock interfaces to help ensure coordinated and high-performing transit systems.

Working as part of multidisciplinary project teams, you will help deliver projects in line with scope, schedule, and budget objectives. The role involves close coordination with clients, contractors, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies, as well as participation in design reviews, constructability assessments, and risk management activities. Strong collaboration and sound technical judgement will be important in supporting effective project execution across all phases of delivery.

You will apply systems engineering principles and recognized safety standards, including RAMS and SIL, in the design and delivery of signaling systems. Responsibilities will also include supporting verification and validation activities through testing and commissioning phases, while ensuring compliance with relevant industry and client standards such as AREMA, CSA, Metrolinx, and TTC requirements. This work will contribute to the successful implementation of signaling systems that meet both operational and safety expectations.

The position also offers the opportunity to contribute to digital delivery and innovation initiatives within the Rail & Transit team. You will support the use of BIM and data-driven design approaches, while helping advance continuous improvement and the adoption of innovative signaling technologies. Alongside technical delivery, you will build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and support client-facing activities such as technical presentations and workshops.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5-10+ years of experience in railway/signaling engineering, with a strong focus on Light Rail Transit (LRT) systems
  • Demonstrated experience in
    • Signaling design (CBTC, fixed block, or equivalent LRT systems)
    • Interlocking systems and train control principles
    • Transit agency standards in Ontario (Metrolinx, TTC, etc.)
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, or eligibility to obtain
  • Experience supporting projects through design, construction, and commissioning phases is an asset
