Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the shipping department team, assigning tasks and providing hands-on support.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards and maintain accurate work instructions in collaboration with team.
  • Train team members in quality inspection, inventory management, and timely shipping processes.
  • Coordinate hiring and performance evaluations with management and HR, providing coaching as needed.
  • Oversee loading and packing of containers to meet quality standards.
  • Assist in packaging shipments, ensuring compliance with departmental specifications.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy while troubleshooting any discrepancies to enhance shipping processes.

Job Purpose:

Coordinates activities and supervises team members while ensuring the process and product quality expectations and customer needs are met.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead and supervise team members within the shipping department, including assigning tasks, providing direction, and offering hands-on support to ensure efficient daily operations.
  • Ensure accuracy of ISO standards and work instructions, collaborating with the team to maintain compliance with established processes.
  • Train team members on effective cycle counting, quality inspection, inventory auditing, part identification, movement, and timely shipping within the system.
  • Collaborate with Department Manager and Human Resources on hiring, promotions, performance evaluations, and provide coaching and corrective feedback to department employees.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure on-time product delivery and adherence to the daily shipping schedule.
  • Oversee loading/packing of outbound containers/trucks to ensure Quality standards and procedures are met.
  • Assist in packaging outbound shipments to department specifications as needed.
  • Work alongside the Warehouse and Assembly Material Handling Supervisors, providing backup support when needed.
  • Perform timely and accurate system transactions, relative to shipping and material handling activities, to ensure compliance to the published work instructions.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy and ensure production lines stay on track.
  • Troubleshoot reported shipping/material handling issues or discrepancies and implement process changes to continuous improvement.
  • Promote a safe work environment by monitoring and enforcing safety rules and regulations.
  • Leverage data analytics to make strategic and tactical business decisions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills Needed:

Required

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge with computer-based shipping/receiving systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meeting deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to work independently.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within this field.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Previous experience in Oracle.
  • Warehouse/Inventory control background.

Working Conditions:

May require heavy lifting of up to 35lbs. occasionally.  Will be working primarily on production floor where certain areas can be noisy.  Must be able to wear steel toe shoes and stand and walk for long periods at a time.

The salary range for this position, intended for U.S. applicants, is $66,500 - $95,000 annually.The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities. The salary range reflected is based on a primary work location of Owatonna, MN and the actual salary may vary for applicants in a different geographic location.This position is eligible to participate in Life Fitness / Hammer Strength’s Production Bonus Plan, which offers the potential to earn additional compensation based on performance metrics. Bonus eligibility is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
