Job Purpose

This position directs the ongoing operational shift activities of the power plant and is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of individual units in compliance with all environmental regulations.

Essential Functions:
  • Administer and monitor equipment safety lockout/tagout system.
  • Promotes accident prevention and safety awareness by conducting pre-shift briefings, weekly safety meetings, job safety audits and accident investigations.
  • Supervises the duties of operating and fuel handling personnel during off-shift periods, directs maintenance personnel for priority work.
  • Monitors and evaluates maintenance activities to expedite return of equipment and systems to service.
  • Directs activities of the station Fire Brigade and acts as incident commander during plant emergency conditions.
  • Performs administrative duties for operations and fuel handling to include timekeeping, scheduling, shift and environmental logs/records, initiation of work requests and documentation of equipment testing and inspections.
  • Leads troubleshooting of equipment problems to correct the problem or recommends corrective actions; involves operators to develop technical expertise within the work group.
  • Performs housekeeping assessments, assures shift cleaning and housekeeping assignments are completed, and directs work assignments to maintain acceptable plant conditions.
  • Ordering of consumable materials such as fuel, oil, hydrogen, CO2 and ammonia.
  • Directs all station operations at the plant during the off-shift periods as the lead management person on shift.
  • Generates repair tickets to insure maintenance problems are properly and timely repaired and participates in station work management through daily planning discussions and outage planning with the cognizant maintenance personnel.
  • Provides direct supervision of union represented employees, training instruction to operators, developmental and performance based coaching, and disciplinary action when appropriate.
  • Communicates with other departments on unit status, deratings, plant operating risks, and scheduled maintenance affecting unit capability on a daily basis.


QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:

Required:
  • Minimum high school education or equivalent.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • 5 or more years of work experience in a power plant or related industrial setting


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 year Associate Engineering degree or applicable military service
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Experience with station systems and equipment


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Detailed knowledge of unit generating sub-systems and operational procedures and guidelines.
  • Basic mechanical, electrical and chemical theories as they relate to power generation.
  • Decision making skills.
  • Ability to train new operators.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

This position is a combination of work in office and industrial settings. Moderate physical activity is regularly required including walking, climbing stairs and ladders, crawling through equipment, bending, and entering confined spaces. Person must be able to wear required personal protection equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, goggles, face shields, hearing protection, respirators, fall protection harnesses, and other PPE as required.

The base salary range for this position is: $118,240 - $177,360. *The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition the position may be eligible to participate in the benefits program which include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending accounts.
