Full Job Description
Job Description

onsemi is seeking a Shift Manager in our East Fishkill, Hopewell Junction site. The Shift Manager is the single-point owner of factory performance for an assigned shift in the East Fishkill 300mm Wafer Fab. This role is accountable for delivering safe, stable, and cost-effective manufacturing results through decisive leadership, rigorous enforcement of standards, and end-to-end ownership of operational outcomes.

Unlike traditional supervisory roles, the Shift Manager is expected to define problems, make decisions, mobilize resources, and drive issues to resolution, not simply identify and escalate them. Success in this role requires strong judgment, operational discipline, and the ability to lead effectively through complexity while balancing safety, quality, delivery, and cost in real time.

Each shift under this role's leadership is expected to leave the factory in a measurably stronger operating position, with improved stability, reduced risk, and clear ownership of any remaining issues.

D1: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Every Other Wednesday. 6:30 AM -7 PM

Responsibilities

Factory Performance Ownership
  • Own and deliver shift-level performance results across equipment uptime, throughput, quality, cycle time, and cost.
  • Translate daily factory targets into clear, prioritized execution plans for the shift.
  • Identify deviations from plan early and take decisive corrective action to recover performance.
  • Make real-time decisions balancing output, product quality, equipment health, and operational risk.
  • Remain accountable for issues through resolution, including ensuring continuity across shifts and functions.
  • Accept full accountability for on-shift results, regardless of cause or functional ownership.

Problem Solving & Decision Leadership
  • Lead on-shift problem definition, containment, and recovery for equipment, process, staffing, and material constraints.
  • Move beyond symptom response by leading root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Bring forward problems with clear analysis, options, and recommendations when cross-functional support is required.
  • Hold engineering, maintenance, and support organizations accountable for meeting commitments that impact shift performance.
  • Ensure lessons learned are documented and translated into improved standard work, controls, or escalation criteria.

People Leadership & Accountability
  • Lead technicians and operators with clear expectations for performance, behavior, and ownership.
  • Actively coach individuals to solve problems at the lowest responsible level.
  • Ensure staffing, skill mix, certifications, and coverage align with factory needs.
  • Develop future leaders by deliberately building capability, delegating responsibility, and providing direct feedback.
  • Address performance gaps promptly and professionally; reinforce consequences for repeated non-standard behaviors.

Cross-Shift Execution & Communication
  • Serve as the authoritative operational leader and decision point for the shift.
  • Lead disciplined shift handovers, ensuring clear communication of:
    • Factory status and performance versus target
    • Open risks and degraded conditions
    • Ownership and next actions for unresolved issues
  • Ensure continuity of execution across shifts by enforcing standards and closing gaps, not re-opening debates.

Continuous Improvement & Cost Stewardship
  • Drive consistent use of metrics, standard work, and accountability mechanisms to improve factory performance.
  • Demonstrate strong cost awareness in daily decisions, including labor efficiency, downtime, scrap, and rework.
  • Challenge recurring issues, workarounds, and inefficiencies; push for systemic fixes rather than short-term containment.

Reinforce a mindset that every shift contributes to improving the factory's long-term capability, not just meeting today's output

Qualifications

  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in manufacturing, industrial, or other high-reliability operational environments.
  • Demonstrated history of owning operational results, not just supervising activity.
  • Proven ability to make sound decisions under time pressure and ambiguity.
  • Strong track record of leading people through problems, change, and accountability.

Perferred Qualifications
  • Experience owning shift-based operations with advanced tools, tightly coupled processes, and high operational risk.
  • Background in structured problem solving, performance management, and operational excellence systems.
