DEFINITION

To plan, organize, administer, and manage the daily activities and operations of the County Correctional Facility (Facility) within the Sheriff's Office. Employees in this classification receive limited supervision within a broad framework of policies and procedures. Employees in this classification train, direct, supervise, and formally evaluate the work of assigned personnel. This job class is a first-line management level classification and exercises responsibility for coordination, supervision, and administration of the day-to-day operations. This job classification requires the application of professional and supervisory skills related to County Facility operations.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Custody Division Captain or other superior officer.
Exercises lead direction and/or supervision over assigned staff

Examples of Duties
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Manages, supervises, and administers the daily operations of the Facility.
Schedules, directs, and supervises assigned custody personnel.
Assists in the preparation and administration of the annual budget; authorizes and monitors budget expenditures while maintaining on-going balances of accounts.
Monitors and evaluates Facility operations and procedures for compliance with established State and federal laws.
Interprets departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures to custody personnel.
Maintains inventory records and stock levels of food, supplies, clothing, equipment and other materials; orders supplies and materials as needed.
Recommends and implements disciplinary actions pertaining to assigned personnel.
Evaluates and monitors the work and training needs of custody personnel and ensures that appropriate training is received.
Prepares and processes reports related to the Facility.
Compiles and maintains statistics related to Facility operations.
Performs daily inspections of the Facility to ensure it is maintained in a safe, clean and proper condition.
Oversees and assists in the booking, jailing, transport and/or release of prisoners.
Coordinates Faciltiy operations and activities with other departmental functions and units as required.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to gain the required knowledge and ability is:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of college coursework in any field (an associate's degree is preferred.) Transcripts or degree must be attached to application if you are using this pathway to qualify.
Experience:

Five (5) years experience in Custodial Facility operations, two (2) of which were in a supervisory capacity and the possession of a Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) Supervisory Certificate. Certificate must be attached to application to qualify.
-OR-
Two (2) years experience as a Sheriff's Sergeant with the Mariposa County Sheriff's Office and possession of a P.O.S.T. Supervisory Certificate. Certificate must be attached to application to qualify.
Additional Requirements:

Completion of, or the ability to complete within one (1) year of employment or appointment, the Adult Corrections Officer Manager/Administrator Core training course as required by Standards and Training for Corrections (STC).

Possession of a valid California Driver's License for the class of vehicle driven and meeting automobile insurability requirements of the County. Under certain circumstances, the Human Resources Director may accept a valid driver's license from another State if applicant acknowledges his/her intent to acquire a California driver's license within three months by signing an acknowledgement form. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Work involves intense concentration on activities going on around one's location on a constant basis throughout the entire work shift.
