About the Job

This is a full-time, on-site position at our Rocklin, CA manufacturing facility. Remote and hybrid work arrangements are not available for this role.

Roseville Precision Inc. is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer with a strong background in precision sheet metal fabrication to join our team in Rocklin, California.

We are looking for someone who understands how to take a customer drawing or model and turn it into an efficient, repeatable manufacturing process.

The right candidate will have hands-on knowledge of sheet metal design and fabrication, SolidWorks, flat pattern development, bend calculations, tooling, forming, welding, routings, work instructions, fixtures, and production problem-solving.

Our facility includes Amada punch and fiber laser equipment, TRUMPF press brakes, HAAS CNC mills, and other precision manufacturing equipment.

This is an experienced-level position for someone who can work closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, Programming, customers, and vendors to move jobs from drawing to finished product.

This is not an entry-level or trainee position. We are looking for someone who already understands manufacturing and can begin contributing after becoming familiar with Roseville Precision's processes and standards.

What You'll Do:

  • Review customer drawings, CAD models, specifications, and purchase order requirements for manufacturability.
  • Develop practical and efficient manufacturing methods for precision sheet metal parts and assemblies.
  • Create and modify SolidWorks 3D models, sheet metal parts, flat patterns, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Create detailed forming, fabrication, assembly, and weld drawings for the shop.
  • Generate and verify flat patterns using proper bend deductions, bend allowances, material properties, and tooling requirements.
  • Develop manufacturing routings and determine the proper sequence of operations for each job.
  • Create and maintain accurate work instructions, job instructions, material requirements, and production documentation.
  • Review existing routings and manufacturing methods for accuracy, efficiency, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support estimating and quoting by helping determine manufacturing methods, material requirements, tooling, setup requirements, and expected production time.
  • Design fixtures, tooling, gauges, and other manufacturing aids as needed.
  • Support Amada punch and fiber laser programming when needed, or learn our programming systems as part of the role.
  • Work closely with programmers and machine operators to resolve manufacturing and programming issues.
  • Support press brake forming, welding, machining, assembly, and other production operations from an engineering perspective.
  • Assist with first articles, prototypes, new jobs, engineering changes, and production revisions.
  • Troubleshoot production problems and develop practical corrective solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce setup time, scrap, rework, material usage, and unnecessary processing.
  • Work directly with customers and vendors to resolve technical questions and manufacturing issues.
  • Maintain accurate engineering files, drawings, revisions, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Work closely with Production, Quality, Programming, Scheduling, and Management to keep jobs moving accurately and efficiently.
  • Help develop and improve manufacturing processes as Roseville Precision adds new equipment, software, and capabilities.

Minimum Experience Required:

We are looking for:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in precision sheet metal fabrication, manufacturing engineering, mechanical design, or a closely related manufacturing role.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes.
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks 3D, including sheet metal parts, assemblies, drawings, and flat patterns.
  • Ability to read and interpret customer drawings, blueprints, tolerances, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Strong understanding of flat pattern development, bend deductions, bend allowances, bend radius, material thickness, and forming requirements.
  • Understanding of laser cutting, CNC punching, press brake forming, welding, hardware installation, machining, and assembly processes.
  • Ability to develop manufacturing routings and determine appropriate sequences of operations.
  • Ability to create clear manufacturing, forming, fabrication, and assembly drawings.
  • Ability to design practical fixtures and tooling for production.
  • Ability to review parts for manufacturability and identify potential problems before they reach production.
  • Strong mechanical and manufacturing problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, Engineering, Quality, and shop-floor employees.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple jobs and priorities in a production environment.
  • Must be able to work full-time on-site at our Rocklin, CA facility.

Experience with the following is highly valuable:

  • Amada punch and fiber laser equipment.
  • AP100.
  • FabriWIN.
  • Amada VPSS or similar CAD/CAM systems.
  • AutoCAD or similar CAD software.

We do not expect every candidate to have experience with every software package or machine in our facility.

For example, someone with extensive precision sheet metal engineering experience, strong SolidWorks skills, and a good understanding of Amada equipment may be an excellent candidate even if they have not previously used every programming system we use.

The successful candidate must already understand the fundamentals of sheet metal manufacturing. We can provide training on specific equipment, software, and Roseville Precision processes.

Additional Experience That Is a Plus:

Experience in any of the following areas would be valuable:

  • Sheet metal estimating and quoting.
  • Amada punch and laser programming.
  • Press brake programming and forming.
  • TRUMPF press brake equipment.
  • Welding processes and weldment design.
  • Fixture and tooling design.
  • HAAS or other CNC machining equipment.
  • CNC machining processes.
  • Hardware insertion and assembly processes.
  • Prototype and high-mix manufacturing.
  • Process improvement and manufacturing optimization.
  • ERP/MRP systems.
  • ECI JobBOSS.
  • ISO and/or AS9100 manufacturing environments.
  • Supervisory, lead, or engineering management experience.

Management experience is a plus but is not required for this position.

What We're Looking For:

We are looking for a practical manufacturing engineer who is comfortable working both at a computer and on the production floor.

The right person should be able to look at a drawing and think beyond the CAD model:

  • How are we going to make it?
  • What is the best sequence of operations?
  • Can it be formed correctly?
  • Do we have the right tooling?
  • Can it be welded and assembled efficiently?
  • Is there a better way to manufacture it?

We value engineers who understand the relationship between the customer drawing, the design, the manufacturing process, the equipment, the operator, quality requirements, and the finished part.

Benefits:

Roseville Precision offers:

  • Medical insurance.
  • Dental insurance.
  • Vision insurance.
  • Life insurance.
  • 401(k).
  • Paid time off.

Who Should Apply?

We encourage experienced sheet metal manufacturing engineers, mechanical engineers, manufacturing specialists, and senior sheet metal professionals with strong engineering and SolidWorks experience to apply.

You do not need to know every machine and software package we use.

You do need to understand precision sheet metal fabrication, be comfortable solving real manufacturing problems, and have enough experience to contribute without starting from the basics.

If you have strong sheet metal manufacturing knowledge, SolidWorks experience, and enjoy turning customer designs into efficient production processes, we would like to hear from you.

Please note: This is a full-time, on-site manufacturing position in Rocklin, California. Remote and hybrid work arrangements are not available.
