Must have an active U.S. Department of War (DoW) Secret security clearance with the eligibility to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.This position located in San Diego, CA with hybrid opportunity available.The Multi-Warfare Planning Training System (MWPTS) Advanced Tactical Training / Systems Operator provides technical console operation, simulator execution, and hands-on scenario development support to SAWS and the SMWDC. Operating at the deck plate level of tactical simulation, this role supports classroom instruction, simulator runs, and live exercise execution across all Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) courses of instruction (IAMD, ASW/SUW, AMW, and the Integrated Air Defense Course / IADC). The incumbent serves as the primary console driver, simulator operator, and tactical scenario builder utilizing the Multi-Warfare Planning and Training System (MWPTS), Combined Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Trainer (CIAT), and adjacent synthetic training architectures. Working in direct partnership with Senior WTI Leads, this position focuses on daily technical setup, SRI allocation, real-time threat injection, and rapid after-action debrief reconstruction.
In this role, you will:
Simulator & Console Operations- Tactical Console & System Operation: Operate MWPTS Trainee Pods, Instructor Workstations, and White Cell consoles across multi-baseline Aegis (BL 9.C2, 9.C3, BL 10) and SSDS (BL 12) configurations during formal WTI schoolhouse evolutions and fleet training events.
- System Reconfiguration Interface (SRI): Configure, stage, and execute MWPTS simulation deployment assignments via the SRI-including Virtual Combat System (VCS) to Ship allocations, Ship to Pod assignments, Link-16 Track Blocks/JU numbers, and CEC Cooperative Unit (CU) parameters-to support the daily training schedule up to 24 hours in advance.
- Dynamic Scenario Generation & Control (SGCS): Execute real-time scenario control using the Scenario Generation and Control Suite (SGCS), dynamically injecting threat entity kinematics, environmental conditions (sea state, radar surface/evaporative ducting), and behavioral trigger models to challenge advanced watchstanders.
- Automated Playback & Rapid Debrief Support: Facilitate rapid post-scenario reconstruction (< 15 minutes post-run) using the MWPTS Playback & Debrief Suite and Joint After-Action Review (JAAR), synchronizing recorded Ground Truth, Tactical Picture displays, and multi-channel internal/external voice communications.
- Distributed Simulator Integration: Maintain operational proficiency and support tactical integration with adjacent surface trainers, including the Multi-Mission Team Trainer (MMTT), Maritime Warfare Operator Trainer (MWOT), Virtual Operator Trainers (VOTs), Combined IAMD/ASW Trainer (CIAT), and CVTSC.
Tactical Instruction & Classroom Support- Over-the-Shoulder Mentorship: Deliver technical systems instruction and over-the-shoulder operator guidance within MWPTS and related trainers for WTI candidates and fleet watchstanders.
- Standardized Briefs & Debriefs: Coordinate, prepare, and conduct formal scenario briefs and debriefs in strict compliance with SMWDC Briefing Standardization directives (SMWDCINST 3320.1) and SAWS course standards.
- Student Performance Assessment: Assist course instructors and WTI leads in collecting objective performance data against Navy Mission Essential Task Lists (NMETL), Surface Force Readiness Manual (SFRM) standards, and fleet Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs).
- Staff & Unit Training Events: Support mission area readiness assessments and synthetic training for Carrier Strike Group (CSG), Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG), Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), Surface Action Group (SAG), and Fleet Command (NCC, NFC, JFMCC, CTF) training evolutions.
- Technical Feedback & Discrepancy Reporting: Document simulator anomalies, combat system software discrepancies, and interoperability limitations, generating detailed inputs for Test Observation Reports (TORs) and developer feedback loops (AWS, NGS, NGTS, JAAR).
Scenario Development & Threat Modeling- Multi-Warfare Scenario Construction: Build, validate, and maintain high-fidelity, multi-day tactical scenarios in MWPTS and NGTS spanning basic procedural checks to complex, multi-threat Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) events.
- Threat Realism & Entity Density: Model high-density threat environments
- Multi-Trainer Selection & Alignment: Evaluate specific learning objectives to determine optimal simulator selection and configuration across MWPTS, CIAT, MMTT, and VOT platforms.
- Tactical Doctrine Integration: Assist in verifying simulated tactical doctrine, firing policies, and Variable Action Button (VAB) / console switch action implementations prior to classroom execution.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- An active DoW Secret security clearance with the eligibility for TS/SCI.
- A Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of professional military, civil service, or defense industry experience in Navy Surface Combat Systems, C5I architectures, or tactical operations.
- A minimum of 3 years recent, hands-on operational experience with the Aegis Weapon System (AWS) or Ship Self-Defense System (SSDS).
- A minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience configuring, operating, and troubleshooting tactical combat trainers (e.g., CIAT, MWPTS, BFTT, ACTS, MMTT).
- Hands-on operational familiarity with Next Generation Threat System (NGTS), Next Generation Simulator (NGS), or Joint After-Action Review (JAAR).
- Previous afloat experience aboard surface combatants (CG, DDG, LHD, LHA) as a surface warfare specialist (OS, FC, FCA, STG, CTT) or Surface Warfare Officer (SWO).
- To be able to travel 25%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Scenario Generation: Demonstrated experience developing complex, multi-threat tactical training scenarios utilizing combat simulation software suites
- Console & HMI Fluency: Proven expertise operating multi-display combat system display consoles (ADSC, SSDS) and tactical peripherals (foot pedals, multichannel spatial communication headsets, touchscreen VABs).
- Tactical Data Networks: Operational understanding of Link-16 terminal operations, Link-11/22 architectures, and Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) net participation.
- Instructional Materials: Experience drafting scenario run worksheets, console setup guides, and NAVEDTRA-compliant training documentation.
