Job Title: Services Principal Consultant

Location: Calgary / Houston

Employment Type: Full-time – Hybrid (2-3 days onsite)

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead on assigned projects, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical direction to project team members.

  • Take ownership of the technical delivery of projects, ensuring solutions meet customer requirements, quality standards, and business objectives.

  • Collaborate with customers' Engineering and Operations teams to gather, analyze, and validate business and technical requirements.

  • Conduct requirements analysis and translate customer needs, specifications, and requests into effective technical solutions.

  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including User Requirements Document.

  • Review and validate internal and external technical specifications to ensure completeness, accuracy, and feasibility.

  • Develop cost estimates and support the management of project budgets, schedules, and resource requirements.

  • Oversee project testing activities, ensuring solutions are thoroughly validated and meet functional and performance requirements.

  • Ensure all project deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with company standards, processes, and quality requirements.

  • Identify project risks, develop mitigation plans, and communicate project status, issues, and recommendations to stakeholders.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges by applying established methodologies and innovative problem-solving approaches when required.

  • Document recurring issues, lessons learned, and proven solutions to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

  • Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, cross-functional teams, customers, and external partners.

  • Communicate project requirements, technical information, and critical updates effectively across departments to ensure successful project execution.

  • Recommend alternative technical approaches and solutions that optimize project outcomes and enhance customer satisfaction.

  • Stay informed of industry best practices and emerging technologies relevant to project execution and customer needs.

  • Travel to customer sites as required (approximately 50%) to support project delivery, stakeholder engagement, and implementation activities.

Required skills:

  • 10+ years of experience in SCADA systems, industrial controls, and automation environments.

  • Strong understanding of network architectures, including TCP/IP and UDP, and industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT, DNP3, XMODBUS, BSAP, Mercury, and related technologies.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, query development, reporting, and analytics.

  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to lead technical teams, mentor team members, and drive project execution.

  • Deep knowledge of the Oil & Gas industry, including SCADA systems, hydrocarbon management, contracts, nominations, allocation, metering, and related operational processes.

  • In-depth understanding of AVEVA solutions and their application within customer operational environments.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage customer expectations while aligning solutions with product capabilities and business requirements.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to work independently and effectively under minimal supervision.

  • Results-oriented mindset with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and business outcomes.

  • Effective decision-making skills and the ability to perform well under pressure.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with customers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science required, with a preference for Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or registration with a recognized Professional Engineering Association is considered an asset.

  • Project Management certifications such as PMP, CAPM, or equivalent are preferred.

  • Experience managing technology or industrial automation projects within a formal project management framework is considered an asset.
