The Otis Service Center is seeking a hands-on Staff Mechanical Engineer to support NAA field service and maintenance personnel in elevator repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting. This role supports field service and maintenance personnel by diagnosing complex mechanical and electromechanical issues, developing repair solutions, and improving reliability of elevator systems.
This position requires direct involvement with rotating equipment, bearings, sheaves, traction machines, and electric motors. On-site surveying, field pilot testing, troubleshooting remotely and in elevator hoistway and machine rooms are a core part of the role.
The candidate will also have the responsibility of organizing, maintaining, and creating Spare Parts Leaflets (SPLs) and Technical Information Publications (TIPs) as they relate to these component areas. Additional Duties will include developing engineering solutions to replace obsolete components as well as newly defined needs from sketches, concepts and verbal instructions developed interactively with group members and others.
On a typical day you will:
Field Troubleshooting and Repair
Diagnose failures involving bearings, sheaves, traction machines, and rotating equipment.
Support field mechanics with troubleshooting and replacement of elevator components and systems.
Investigate field incidents and conduct root cause failure analysis (RRCA) for mechanical and electromechanical failures
Jobsite testing and surveying.
Project Management
Manage moderately sized and complex projects spanning across multiple disciplines.
Deliver on schedule B cost savings targets assigned.
Create product upgrade packages
Provide input to optimize department processes, improving collection of data related to engineering tasks, time allocated, and value delivered.

Operations and Supply Management Support
Work to develop engineering solutions to replace obsolete components.
Provide engineering support for manufacturing and contract engineering of current production and legacy parts.
Support engineering requests from OSC departments such as supply chain, customer service, modernization, assembly, and machine shop.
Create work instructions for production of parts and systems.
Resolve part quality issues for current production and legacy parts.
Support supply management and operations by providing stocking recommendations for new and existing parts and work to reduce part costs and lead times.
Documentation
Create and update Spare Parts Leaflets (SPLs) and Technical Information Publications (TIPs)
Create engineering drawings of parts and assemblies.
Create tools, parts, and technical documents for field repair, installation, and maintenance of Otis and competitor equipment.
Participate in Change Notice reviews with Otis New Equipment division.
Provide training to peers, mechanics, and field engineers.
What you will need to be successful:
BS in Mechanical Engineering
15+ years of engineering experience
5+ years handson rotating equipment and motor troubleshooting experience (elevator preferred).
Strong background in bearings, power transmission, and motors.
Ability to perform engineering hand calculations (torque/HP, bearing life, sheave/belt forces, fits/tolerances) and create field-ready recommendations
Proven track record leading technical projects from concept to sales release.
Able to prepare and present reports to the senior leadership team.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Self-motivated, results-driven employee with excellent attention to detail
The ability to work as both an individual contributor and in a team environment and to manage multiple projects concurrently is needed.
Knowledge of design/drafting practices, geometric dimensioning and tolerance setting, materials, and processes.
Ability to travel 5-10%
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in repair and manufacturing industry.
Knowledge of elevator mechanical components, hydraulic and traction machines.
Proficiency in PTC Creo and AutoCAD.

The salary range for this role is $116,000-$145,000.We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may change in the future. Pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
