Summary of Job Duties:
The Service Line Administrator is responsible for the strategic, financial, and operational management of the Medical Specialty and Cardiovascular Service Lines within the UAMS Division of Integrated Clinical Enterprise (ICE). This role involves comprehensive programmatic development, recruitment and retention of clinical providers, and close collaboration with the Physician Service Line Director & Service Line Nursing Leader in a triad, matrixed leadership model. The Administrator ensures alignment with ICE and UAMS overarching goals, working closely with clinical, academic, and administrative stakeholders to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and achieve performance and financial targets.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, healthcare administration, clinical, or a related field.
  • 8 years of progressive healthcare administration experience required (both inpatient and outpatient preferred).
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communication skills with multiple layers of staff and leadership.
  • Extensive knowledge of academic healthcare trends and financial management practices.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, capable of integrating complex information for budgeting and strategic planning.

  • Advanced managerial degree (MBA, MHA, or related advanced degree).

  • Develop and implement annual budgets, including expense budgeting and revenue projections from clinical, appropriated, discretionary, endowment, gift, and grant sources.
  • Conduct internal audits, financial reviews, and special financial analyses; rapidly respond to organizational needs by analyzing variance reports and mitigating financial risks.
  • Disseminate and interpret clinical, financial, and operational data to Service Line providers in coordination with the Physician Service Line Director, enabling informed decision-making and continuous performance improvement.
  • Monitor fiscal performance across cost centers, satellite offices, diagnostic services, and ancillary services, ensuring effective resource allocation.
  • Oversee financial transactions, including payroll, purchasing, travel, invoices, and contracting.
  • Lead data-driven improvement projects that enhance operational effectiveness, focusing on key metrics related to people, service, growth, margin, and quality.
  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit and retain high-caliber clinical providers in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Partner with academic and clinical leaders, including the Physician Service Line Director, to expand service line programs consistent with UAMS's mission and the evolving healthcare landscape.
  • Cultivate an environment of innovation, continuous improvement, and professional development for faculty and staff.
  • Establish and measure targets for patient quality, satisfaction, clinical metrics, employee satisfaction, and workforce indicators (e.g., turnover, vacancy, advancement).

The position has direct budget and administrative responsibility for the operation of the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology under guidance from the Department Administrator. The position has administrative responsibility over the Department's research, educational, and service operations and activities. The Assistant Service Line Administrator will also have an extensive collaboration with Integrated Medicine Service Line and will support the SL Administrators on administrative and budgetary processes that are shared between the two entities.

This position will assist the Division Director/Department Chairman and Administrator in strategic planning and program development in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology. This position will serve as the chief financial officer for the division and is accountable to the College to ensure optimal financial, budgetary and operational support to the department and its leadership. In partnership with the division director/department chair, this position will be responsible for departmental staff recruitment, hiring, supervision, training, and performance management.
