Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager 2. This position is located in Manhattan Beach, CA and supports the Sentinel Program.

This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package. 

This position is a dual-hat position requiring the candidate to perform functional management activities as well as program responsibilities. It is expected that the Functional Homeroom responsibilities will comprise up to 20% of the candidate's time while 80% of your efforts will be focused on technical program support under the Sentinel – Command Systems (CS) Hardware Design Integration team.

As an FHR manager, you will report directly to an SDS Electrical Department Manager. You will provide career mentorship and operational support to a Functional Home Room (FHR) team (Section) of between 10 and 15 Individual Contributors (ICs) based on Engineering goals, objectives, and company policy. Key FHR responsibilities include recruiting, staffing, retaining talent, performance management, process familiarization and training.

For your technical scope, you will be responsible for CS hardware cable design. You will lead a diverse team of electrical engineers and report directly to the IPT cable subsection lead.

What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Work with program leadership to assess issues and develop solutions to meet productivity, quality, and program cost/schedule objectives as well as develop and maintain metrics for monitoring the team's progress

  • Provide technical direction, team tasking, and make design decisions in support of development and documentation of hardware interfaces, electrical cable/harness design, analysis and routing

  • Participate in technical reviews and ensure quality and applicability of requirements to work products

  • Grow, develop, and manage a diverse team of electrical designers

  • Interface with internal and external customers

  • Liaison to Command Systems Sub-IPTs and across the program

  • Assist CS management and Chief Engineer in risk identification and tracking.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 8 years of experience; or Master's degree with 6 years of experience.

  • Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need

  • Electrical engineering experience in electrical architecture and/or cable/harness design.

  • Familiar with Siemens Mentor Graphics Capital or equivalent

  • Familiar with Siemens Teamcenter PLM or equivalent.

  • Experience in technical leadership/management role and driving performance against schedule.

  • Familiar with industry/military standards and codes (IEC, NEC, NFPA, etc…)

  • Working experience with designing cables to IPC/WHMA-A-620

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.

  • Strong written and verbal communication for preparing technical reports, specifications, and presenting design concepts to stakeholders.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc…)

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have

  • Strong understanding of cable construction, materials, and performance characteristics (e.g., voltage rating, current carrying capacity, EMI/EMC, thermal requirements and shielding)

  • Experience managing design revisions, change orders, and interfacing with cross functional teams.

  • Proficient in creating wiring diagrams, harness drawings, and bill of materials (BOM) documents.

  • Proficient with Siemens Teamcenter PLM or equivalent.

  • Proficient with Siemens Capital or equivalent.

  • Strong experience leading teams with interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

  • Experience with individual contributor performance assessments

  • Operate independently with limited to no supervision, and the ability to establish a solid working relationship with technical staff, peers, and customers

  • Experience in performing in an Agile environment and knowledge/understanding of JIRA.

  • Experience with DoD acquisition processes, milestone reviews, and government contracting.

Primary Level Salary Range: $161,100.00 - $241,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
