Senior Wire Design and Install Engineer

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a motivated Senior Wire Design & Install Engineer to join our team in El Segundo, CA. This group manages major commercial and government satellite and ground programs supporting communications, national defense, and other critical missions.

As a Senior Wire Design & Install Engineer, you will leverage your extensive background in wire harness design, manufacturing, and qualifications specifically tailored for space applications. This role requires deep expertise in electrical engineering principles and the ability to interpret complex engineering documentation, including wire schematics, wire assembly, and wire installation drawings.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and qualification of wire harnesses for spaceflight applications, ensuring compliance with rigorous mission life requirements spanning nominal to extreme environmental conditions
  • Apply strong understanding of wire harness design constraints, materials, and applications throughout the product lifecycle
  • Provide technical oversight and project management leadership on complex wire harness engineering efforts
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and solve manufacturing, testing, and performance challenges related to wire harness assemblies
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and deliver clear, concise presentations to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Support expanding responsibilities into RF cable and high-speed data transmission media, and proactively develop competencies in these areas
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with systems, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure design integrity and successful integration
  • Mentor and guide junior engineering staff, fostering skill growth and knowledge sharing
  • Maintain strict adherence to security, configuration management, and change control processes


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • This position requires the ability to obtain Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required).
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 5 + years of experience with wire harness, electrical and/or mechanical design
  • 3+ years of experience leading technical projects and teams
  • 2+ years of experience with qualifying components of space application
  • 3+ years of experience with anomaly investigation and resolution


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 5+ years of experience in wire harness design, manufacturing and/or integration experience
  • Experience in manufacturing, specializing in wire harness
  • 3+ years of experience with leading technical focus teams and failure review boards
  • Ability to lead and understand schematic details
  • Understanding of multiple electrical and RF transmission media
  • Understanding of EMI/EMC separation for electrical application
