Full Job Description
The Senior Well Engineering Modeling & Simulation Technologist does researches, develops and advances engineering models, numerical simulation capabilities, optimization methods, and software-based workflows for well design and drilling applications. The role strengthens Landmark's technical capacity to support existing products and customer commitments while accelerating the development of next-generation well-engineering technologies.

Working across technology, product, software development, and customer-facing teams, the technologist translates engineering theory and research into reliable product capabilities. Initial priorities may include gas migration and well-control modeling for a major customer initiative and the development of AI-enabled automated well-design and optimization workflows. The role creates value by improving model quality, accelerating science-to-product transition, and providing continuity for specialized well-engineering expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop advanced well-engineering models, numerical simulation methods, and optimization capabilities for well design, drilling, well control, and related engineering applications.
  • Translate scientific concepts, research findings, and engineering requirements into tested, maintainable, and commercially deployable software capabilities.
  • Design and evaluate automated well-design and optimization workflows, including appropriate use of AI-enabled or agent-based methods alongside established engineering models.
  • Execute technical work supporting gas migration and well-control modeling, including model formulation, numerical implementation, sensitivity analysis, and interpretation of results.
  • Maintain and enhance core engineering models used in related Landmark well-engineering technologies.
  • Verify and validate models and software implementations using engineering calculations, benchmark cases, field or laboratory information when available, and documented acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, subject-matter experts, and customer-facing teams to define requirements, resolve technical issues, and prioritize product improvements.
  • Analyze customer and product needs and recommend technically sound solutions that balance engineering rigor, usability, performance, maintainability, and delivery requirements.
  • Integrate security, data protection, traceability, and responsible technology considerations into new product and workflow designs in accordance with applicable development practices.
  • Document and communicate model assumptions, governing principles, limitations, test results, and recommended applications to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Contribute to technical continuity through knowledge sharing, peer review, mentoring, professional engagement, and participation in relevant industry or scientific communities.


Qualifications

Required
  • Undergraduate degree in Science, Engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
  • Minimum of four years of related experience.
  • Experience applying engineering or scientific principles to the development, implementation, or evaluation of technical models, simulations, products, or software-based workflows.
  • Demonstrated capability in one or more of the following areas: numerical modeling, engineering simulation, applied mathematics, optimization, scientific computing, engineering software development or AI-assisted engineering workflows.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems, document assumptions and results, and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Ability to work with technology leadership, product teams, software developers, and technical customer stakeholders on projects of moderate scope and complexity.


Preferred
  • Master's degree or PhD in Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in well engineering, drilling engineering, well control, gas migration, tubular design, wellbore mechanics, well integrity, or another closely related domain.
  • Experience developing or maintaining scientific software using languages or tools such as Python, C++, C#, Fortran, MATLAB/Mathematica, or comparable numerical-computing technologies.
  • Experience with Landmark EDT/DWP application suite or other well-design, drilling-engineering, multiphysics, geomechanics, flow-simulation, or engineering-optimization applications.
  • Exposure to machine learning, generative AI, agent-based systems, or AI-assisted engineering workflows, particularly where engineering constraints, model validation, and human technical oversight are important.
