Vice President, Cyber & Technology Underwriting

Position Summary
Tokio Marine HCC is seeking a Vice President, Cyber & Technology Underwriting to lead and manage underwriting activities within the Cyber and Technology portfolio. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing underwriting strategy, standards, workflow, referrals, and product execution to support profitable growth and disciplined risk selection.

The Vice President, Cyber & Technology Underwriting will serve as a product and underwriting leader, partnering with internal stakeholders, brokers, claims, legal, and senior leadership to ensure underwriting practices, product forms, processes, and quality review programs align with business objectives. This individual will also monitor market trends, competitive activity, and emerging cyber and technology risk issues to help guide underwriting strategy and portfolio performance.

This is a hybrid position.

Key Responsibilities

Relying on expert knowledge and advanced leadership skills, this role is accountable for the following responsibilities:
  • Participate in the development of underwriting standards, appetite, guidelines, and objectives for Cyber and Technology products, and ensure they are consistently applied.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a high-performing underwriting team.
  • Manage underwriting workflow, referrals, authority usage, and quality review processes for the product area.
  • Serve as a product expert for Cyber and Technology underwriting matters.
  • Make recommendations for modifications to underwriting strategy, appetite, pricing approach, forms, and processes to support business continuity and profitable growth.
  • Stay current on underwriting trends, emerging cyber and technology exposures, competitive activity, and market conditions.
  • Partner with Claims, Legal, Actuarial, Product, Compliance, and other internal stakeholders to evaluate risk, manage portfolio issues, and support product development.
  • Review claims activity and work with Claims and Counsel to identify trends, manage risk, and inform underwriting guidance.
  • Communicate with domestic and international stakeholders as needed.
  • Work with Legal on policy form, endorsement, language, intent, and filing-related matters.
  • Support broker and client relationships as appropriate, including underwriting discussions, renewal strategy, and portfolio development.
  • Provide leadership reporting, underwriting updates, and recommendations to senior management.
  • Ensure underwriting practices align with company policies, procedures, business goals, and regulatory requirements.

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements

Education
  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent education and/or experience. Master's degree preferred.


Certifications, Licenses, and Designations
  • Minimum: None required.
  • Preferred: Relevant insurance, underwriting, cyber, privacy, technology risk, or professional liability designations may be beneficial.


Experience
  • Minimum: 12 years of relevant and progressive underwriting experience, including cyber, technology, professional liability, specialty lines, or related underwriting experience.


Leadership
  • Minimum: 8 years of leadership experience in underwriting or a related insurance discipline.


Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong underwriting judgment and demonstrated ability to evaluate complex Cyber and Technology risks.
  • Strong operational capability with a proven track record of developing, implementing, and overseeing quality processes, procedures, and policies that improve business operations.
  • Ability to apply advanced knowledge of underwriting principles, practices, procedures, and portfolio management.
  • Strong understanding of cyber risk, technology risk, professional liability exposures, emerging threats, and related insurance products.

  • Superior organizational and analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of industry changes, legal updates, regulatory developments, and technical trends related to Cyber and Technology underwriting.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and related business systems.
  • Ability to partner effectively with senior leadership, brokers, claims, legal, actuarial, product, and other internal stakeholders.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands
  • Because the Company has designated this as a cash-sensitive position, in addition to a criminal background check, a credit check is also required before any individual starts in this position. Employees in this position will also need to complete the background check process on an annual basis. All such checks referenced in the foregoing shall be completed in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act and other applicable laws.
  • Overtime hours may be required to fulfill job responsibilities.

Travel Requirements
Regular travel required, up to 20% of time.

California Pay Transparency
The Tokio Marine HCC salary range for this position is $175,600 to $387,300. The salary offered will be determined based on factors such as experience, education, knowledge, skills, internal equity, and market considerations. This position may also be eligible for bonus or incentive compensation, in accordance with applicable plan terms.
