Full Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE

As our Senior UX/UI Engineer, you'll own the design, architecture, and ongoing development of TaxRise's client facing web application, the platform our clients rely on throughout their entire tax resolution journey. Reporting to our Chief Data Officer, you'll be the primary technical driver behind the application's front end, responsible for the decisions that shape how it's built, how it scales, and how it performs in production.

You'll work hands-on across the full product lifecycle, from wireframes and prototypes in Figma to production ready components built in React and TypeScript. You'll partner closely with our data team to understand system constraints and data structures, and you'll have a direct voice in what gets built next, not just how it gets built.

This is a senior, high ownership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of design and engineering and wants their decisions to directly shape how thousands of clients experience TaxRise. This role is based onsite in Irvine, CA.

HOW YOU'LL BE REWARDED

At TaxRise, Inc., we recognize and reward high performance, ownership, and results.
  • Base Salary: $150,000 to $175000 per year (DOE)

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Design & User Experience
  • Design user flows, wireframes, and high fidelity prototypes in Figma for a client facing web application
  • Build and maintain a scalable design system and component library used across the platform
  • Translate complex client and financial data into clear, intuitive interfaces that reduce confusion and support self-service
  • Conduct usability reviews and iterate designs based on client feedback, support tickets, and usage data
  • Define interaction patterns and visual standards that keep the application consistent as new features are added

Front End Engineering & Architecture
  • Own the architecture and ongoing development of the client application using Next.js, React, and Typescript
  • Implement responsive, accessible interfaces following WCAG standards across desktop and mobile
  • Integrate front end applications with backend APIs to support real time client data and account status updates
  • Optimize application performance, including load times, rendering efficiency, and asset management
  • Write and maintain component and end to end tests to ensure UI reliability before release
  • Manage version control, branching strategy, and code reviews using Git
  • Own the front end CI/CD pipeline and deployment process, ensuring smooth and reliable releases
  • Make and document decisions on technical debt, refactoring priorities, and long-term scalability of the application
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability when front end issues or client facing bugs arise in production

Cross Functional Partnership
  • Partner with the Chief Data Officer and data team to understand system constraints, data structures, and reporting needs
  • Provide input on product roadmap decisions from a technical feasibility and user experience standpoint
  • Collaborate with product managers and engineers to scope, estimate, and prioritize front end work
  • Present design concepts, prototypes, and technical recommendations to stakeholders
  • Advocate for user centered design and accessibility across the product development lifecycle
  • Document design decisions, component usage, and front end architecture for future reference and team continuity

Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Monitor how clients interact with the application and identify opportunities to simplify workflows
  • Stay current on front end development practices, accessibility standards, and design tooling
  • Validate that shipped features match design specifications and function as intended in production

WHAT YOU'LL NEED
  • 5+ years of experience in UX/UI design, front end development, or a hybrid role
  • Experience with modern Next.js architecture, including the App Router, server and client components, route handlers, middleware, caching, and rendering strategies.
  • Experience implementing authentication and role-based access in applications handling sensitive user data.
  • Demonstrated experience owning a production web application, not just contributing features to one
  • Strong hands on experience with React, TypeScript, and Next.js
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma, including components, variants, auto layout, and prototyping
  • Experience building and maintaining design systems and component libraries
  • Solid understanding of WCAG accessibility standards and responsive design
  • Experience consuming REST APIs and working with real time or asynchronous data
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and component or end to end testing tools such as Jest, Playwright.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross functionally with data, product, and engineering teams
  • Experience in fintech, financial services, or another data sensitive industry is a plus
