Senior Underwriter, Commercial Property to drive our entry into the Canadian Commercial Property Insurance Market.

Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate will bring strong experience underwriting Commercial Property risks within a leading commercial insurance carrier. They should have a proven track record of building and managing relationships with retail brokers, using those partnerships to originate, retain, and grow profitable business
Furthermore, the candidate should possess a comprehensive understanding of underwriting fundamentals, policy structures, and multi-line solution design.
In addition to technical strength, the individual should demonstrate strong executive presence, with the ability to communicate effectively, influence outcomes, and build lasting relationships that support long-term strategic growth, while operating collaboratively within a team and independently managing a portfolio
Work Profile This role is ideal for individuals based in Toronto who are looking for a hybrid working model of 3 days in the office and 2 remote. This role will require travel to attend industry and company events.
What You'll Do- Build and grow a profitable portfolio of Commercial Property business.
- Develop strong relationships with brokers and clients across Canada.
- Identify, pursue, and win new business opportunities.
- Underwrite new and renewal business, applying sound judgment and disciplined pricing.
- Structure coverage solutions, limits, retentions, and terms for complex risks.
- Partner with Risk Engineering, Claims, and Distribution teams to deliver exceptional broker and client experiences.
- Champion AXIS' underwriting appetite in the marketplace and strengthen our brand presence.
- Contribute to portfolio strategy, underwriting guidelines, and profitable growth initiatives.
- Travel periodically to support broker engagement and business development.

What We're Looking For- 3+ years of Commercial Property underwriting experience.
- Strong technical underwriting and risk assessment capabilities.
- Established broker relationships and proven business development skills.
- Demonstrated success managing and growing a profitable book of business.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to build and create.
- CIP, FCIP, CRM, or equivalent qualifications are an asset.
- Multinational Property underwriting experience is a plus.
- Bilingual (French and English) abilities would be an asset

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $150,000 to $170,000 CAD. Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location. In addition, you will be offered competitive target incentive compensation, with awards based on overall corporate and individual performance.
