The salary range for this position is $120k-$145k annually. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.

About the Role
The Senior Transmission Engineer is responsible for leading the engineering and design of high-voltage transmission line projects supporting utility, renewable generation, and grid modernization initiatives. This role provides technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from planning and conceptual design through detailed engineering, construction support, and project closeout.
The Senior Transmission Engineer collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams, mentors junior engineers, interfaces directly with clients, and ensures all deliverables meet applicable engineering standards, quality expectations, project schedules, and budgets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering and design of high-voltage transmission line projects from early-stage development through construction and commissioning.
- Serve as the technical lead for assigned projects, coordinating engineering activities across multidisciplinary teams.
- Develop and review transmission line designs, calculations, drawings, specifications, and engineering deliverables.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable client standards, engineering practices, safety codes, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate closely with Substation Engineering, Protection & Control (P&C), Civil/Structural Engineering, Survey, and other project stakeholders.
- Perform engineering studies, feasibility analyses, constructability reviews, and value engineering evaluations.
- Support transmission line routing, structure spotting, conductor selection, foundation coordination, and construction support activities.
- Review engineering packages for technical accuracy, quality, constructability, and completeness.
- Prepare technical scopes of work, engineering estimates, proposals, and project documentation.
- Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs), field questions, and construction issues while supporting project execution.
- Participate in client meetings and provide technical presentations, project updates, risk assessments, and engineering recommendations.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers, designers, and other engineering staff.
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, standards, quality, and project execution.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Travel up to 20% within North America.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the design and engineering of high-voltage transmission line projects.
- Strong knowledge of overhead transmission line design principles, utility engineering standards, and industry best practices.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects from planning through construction support.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry standards, including NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, and NEMA.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
- Experience reviewing engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and provide technical leadership.
- Proficiency with:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- PLS-CADD
- AutoCAD
- Bluebeam (preferred)
Nice-to-Haves
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Master's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- Experience with renewable energy interconnections, including wind, solar, and battery energy storage (BESS) projects.
- Experience delivering EPC or Design-Build transmission projects.
- Experience working directly with investor-owned utilities, municipalities, or renewable developers.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Experience mentoring engineers and supporting the technical development of junior staff.
