Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Technical Director, Tunnels & Underground Structures to join our team! In this role, you will provide executive-level technical leadership for major tunnel pursuits and projects, advise clients and project teams, oversee multidisciplinary design management, and help expand Parsons' tunnel business across the United States and Canada.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Serve as a senior technical director, consultant, and advisor for the planning, design, and delivery of complex tunnel and underground infrastructure projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and strategic input for major pursuits, including proposal strategy, technical approaches, differentiators, teaming strategies, scopes of work, staffing plans, and client presentations.
  • Lead or oversee multidisciplinary design management for large and complex tunnel programs, ensuring technical integration, quality, constructability, risk management, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Advise project managers, design managers, technical leads, and clients on tunnel design, construction methods, delivery strategies, technical risks, and resolution of complex project challenges.
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with major public-sector, transportation, water, wastewater, and infrastructure clients throughout the United States and Canada, connecting client needs with Parsons' capabilities and technical resources.
  • Support strategic growth by identifying emerging opportunities, strengthening client engagement, and developing innovative and practical technical solutions that enhance Parsons' competitive position.
  • Mentor and develop technical staff, promote collaboration and knowledge sharing, and support consistent application of Parsons' technical standards, quality requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Represent Parsons in academic, technical, and industry organizations through leadership roles, committees, conferences, technical publications, presentations, and other professional activities

What Required Skills You'll Bring:
  • Advanced degree in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, geological engineering, or a related technical discipline, with 25+ years of relevant technical experience and 15+ years of management or technical leadership experience.
  • Extensive experience in the planning, design, design management, or technical oversight of major tunnel and underground infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary technical teams and manage multiple, overlapping assignments and deliverables under demanding schedules.
  • Strong understanding of business development and proposal processes, with the ability to translate client needs and business objectives into effective technical approaches, project plans, and pursuit strategies.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, presentation, written communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advise senior leadership, project teams, partners, and clients.


What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
  • Advanced degree in civil, geotechnical, structural, geological, or tunnel engineering and active Professional Engineer registration in the United States and/or Canada.
  • Recognized technical expertise in tunnel and underground design, including one or more of the following: tunnel boring machines, sequential excavation methods, shafts, underground structures, ground support, segmental linings, geotechnical risk, groundwater control, or constructability.
  • Established relationships with major infrastructure clients and industry partners in the United States and Canada, along with demonstrated experience supporting successful pursuits and strategic client engagement.
  • Active leadership and visibility in academic and industry organizations, including participation in technical committees, professional societies, conferences, publications, standards development, or university collaboration.

This position is part of our Critical Infrastructure team.

Salary Range: $85.05 - $159.81
