Summary

Bell's RAN and Site Architecture team is seeking a motivated individual to define the long-term vision and strategy for site architecture with a dedicated focus on power infrastructure and energy management. In this senior technical leadership role, you will drive the technology roadmap for site-level power systems, evaluate and introduce emerging sustainable energy technologies and establish architectural standards aimed at reducing network energy consumption and operational expense. Acting as a key subject matter expert, you will own and collaborate cross-functionally to standardize robust, resilient and highly efficient energy practices, while directly contributing to broader site and RAN architecture standards, designs and technical decisions across the national network.

Key Responsibilities

• National Roadmap & Strategy: Develop, own and execute the long-term national technology strategy roadmap for energy management and power plant infrastructure across the entire radio access network.
• Future Network Scalability: Evaluate emerging site-level power demands driven by wireless network densification (small cells, 5G/6G deployments) and edge computing, proactively adapting the power architecture to support future scale.

• Design and Cost Efficiency: Define architectural standards, site designs and engineering best practices aimed specifically at reducing operational expenditure (OPEX) across national sites.
• Next-Gen Tech & Renewable Integration: Lead the technical evaluation and network-wide introduction of emerging renewable energy technologies establishing the underlying technical standards and site-level guidelines.
• Hardware, Vendor and Security Compliance: Evaluate traditional power infrastructure hardware (such as rectifiers, DC plants, and battery/generator systems) and manage vendor roadmaps to ensure strict technical, quality and security compliance.

• AI/ML Energy Optimization: Spearhead advanced AI/ML-driven energy initiatives, focusing on smart capabilities such as predictive maintenance, load forecasting and dynamic power shedding.
• ESG & Carbon Footprint Ownership: Own the technical energy consumption strategies required to meet corporate carbon footprint reduction and Net-Zero targets, ensuring all site installations comply with environmental regulations, safety standards and local electrical codes.
• Market Intelligence & Industry Tracking: Actively track global telecom industry trends, regulatory updates and vendor innovations regarding sustainability and energy efficiency in telecommunications networks.

• Business Cases & Financial Justification: Build comprehensive business cases, total cost of ownership (TCO) analyses and cost-benefit frameworks to financially justify investments in new energy technologies and optimization initiatives.
• Mentorship & Technical Guidance: Act as the principal subject matter expert, providing strong technical direction, architectural guidance and mentorship to engineers and architects on power and energy infrastructure.

Critical Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Energy Systems, or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of engineering experience in telecommunications, utilities or critical infrastructure.
• Deep technical expertise in power grid systems, rectifiers, battery chemistry (VRLA, Li-ion) and backup generator operations.
• Proven capability in building financial business models, cost-benefit analyses and TCO evaluations for capital projects.
• Expertise in regulatory compliance, including a strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), IEEE electrical power standards, and global telecom sustainability and energy efficiency guidelines (e.g., GSMA, ATIS, and ETSI)
• Strong leadership presence with a track record of influencing senior stakeholders and driving alignment across multi-functional engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline or an active Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
• Familiarity with RF and 5G systems, including the specific power draws associated with modern cellular equipment.
• Practical experience in multi-vendor RAN hardware environments (specifically Nokia and Ericsson infrastructure) and a solid grasp of site layout and architecture principles.
• Experience leading sustainability/ESG metrics tracking or renewable energy integration in a corporate or utility network environment.
• Knowledge of vendor RAN software configurations, specifically around utilizing software-driven sleep modes and energy-saving features.

Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
