Job SummarySenior Tax Accountant You may prepare and/or review all assigned federal, state and/or local tax returns, tax payments, and tax accruals, in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and established policies and procedures. Prepares information for financial statements and regulatory filings. Prepares annual tax budgets and maintains actual to budget variances, as assigned. Prepares responses for internal and external audits of financial statements, regulatory filings, internal controls, and tax returns.
Researches tax, accounting, or business issues related to assigned entities or projects, and formulates and provides recommendations to management. May coordinate special projects, including analyzing tax issues in connection with acquisitions, divestures, or new business opportunities, identifying potential tax opportunities, and analyzing the impact of new or proposed tax laws and/or interpretations.
Assists in training of co-workers and dissemination of new or emerging issues or information. Recommends changes to information gathering and tax filing processes. A combination of knowledge developed through formal education and practical experience that demonstrates a strong understanding of concepts regarding tax laws and tax accounting practices and procedures, Knowledge of tax research methods with ability to interpret tax laws, to prepare general tax research memorandums, and to formulate recommendations for management.
Lead Tax AccountantThis role functions as a technical resource involved in the day-to-day planning, research and/or compliance of general and specified areas of taxation. May coordinate the preparation and review of all assigned federal, state and/or local tax returns, tax payments, tax accruals, research projects, financial reports and government filings to ensure compliance with government regulations and established procedures, and/or provide technical leadership in coordinating the completion of multiple work assignments and projects.
May utilize specialized skills to research tax issues at an advanced level, formulating and providing recommendations to management to minimize tax consequences. May advise management on tax implications of special tax issues related to the energy industry. Analyzes and interprets changes to federal, state or local laws and communicates financial impact of changes to management.
May draft or coordinate with outside counsel the drafting of ruling requests, protests and requests to communicate the company's positions with respect to issues arising from tax audits, and may participate in negotiations.
Assists in training of co-workers. Coordinates responses for internal and external audits of financial statements, regulatory filings, internal controls, and tax returns. May assist with due diligence in connection with mergers and acquisitions, as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & ExperienceLead Tax Accountant: 5-6+ years of experience that demonstrates an advanced understanding of concepts regarding tax laws and tax accounting practices and procedures.
Senior Tax Accountant: 5+ years of accounting experience or 4+ years of public accounting or corporate tax department accounting experience.
Note: A Master's degree will count as one year of experience. A partial year of six months or more of experience will be rounded up to one year.
Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and experience:- Knowledge of tax research methods with ability to interpret tax laws, prepare general tax research memorandums, and formulate recommendations for management.
Ability to research complex issues, formulate and develop recommendations to management. - Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with ERP software.
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coordinate the completion of multiple work assignments and/or projects, provide guidance where necessary, problem solve, and ensure that the project team meets it operational deadlines.
- Ability to provide technical assistance and training to others.
- Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to motivate team members towards completion of work assignments.
- Ability to provide critical feedback and peer reviews for assigned work tasks.
Education RequirementsDegree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor
