Job Description

Job Title: Senior Systems LiftSystem Engineer (F-35B)

Working Pattern: Full-time

Working location: Indianapolis, IN (Hybrid Schedule-3 days onsite minimum)

As the Senior Systems LiftSystem Engineer (F-35B) you will be part of the Software Systems Capability function and will be responsible for supporting the programs actuation, control, and hydraulic/fueldraulic systems. You will also support the system software through customer interfaces and test support. You will also work closely with service engineering, design, and production to conduct in-service fleet and production investigations while using a variety of data sources to proactively identify potential issues and improve the products’ design.

You will specify, design, and validate complex sub-systems, including high-level requirements for the software and/or hardware system components. This includes creation of mathematical models and simulations of control and actuation systems.  You will also be responsible for the on-time delivery and quality of the controls sub-system and the artifacts associated with the design, verification, and validation of the system. You will achieve this through decomposition of designs, development of tests, and analysis to ensure that the system implementation satisfies the validated requirements. Travel 10%.

What you will be doing

  • Facilitate structured problem-solving activities to resolve technical issues
  • Using fleet, supplier and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) data to proactively identify reliability, obsolescence, or other potential issues
  • Designs and implements the control and instrumentation system to meet the high-level requirements and design constraints/standards. Allocate control and instrumentation system requirements to test vehicles defined in the verification plan
  • An ability to interpret test results and provide an informed opinion or conclusion as to the outcome of the analysis. This includes an understanding of measurement uncertainty.
  • Liaises with other disciplines to understand functional performance capabilities of components of the system to facilitate effective component design.
  • Preparing and presenting technical data to a wide range of internal and external customers conversations in support of product safety, reliability, and in-service reviews

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Systems, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or Computer Science or STEM related discipline with 2+ years of controls engineering experience, OR
  • Master’s degree in Aerospace, Systems, Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or Computer Science or STEM related discipline, OR
  • PhD in degree in Aerospace, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science or STEM related discipline.
  • In order to be eligible for consideration, you must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Requirements:

  • Software, system controls or propulsion experience
  • Higher level software language experience
  • Mechanical and Electric Measurement Tools
  • Experience with hydro-mechanical fuel control systems (e.g. pumps, metering units, valves, servo valves, actuators, flow controls, etc.)
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis and other problem-solving techniques
  • Experience communicating with management, suppliers, universities and external customers, including government officials.
  • Experience interpreting field and test results and provide an informed result.
