Description

The Senior Superintendent is a highly experienced field manager responsible for overseeing all aspects of large-scale, high-profile, or technically complex construction projects, or field management oversight of multiple projects. This role provides strategic direction and leadership to site teams, ensuring that safety, quality, schedule, and budget goals are achieved while maintaining strong relationships with owners, trade partners, and internal stakeholders. In addition to driving field performance, the Senior Superintendent mentors superintendents, assistant superintendents, and field engineers - helping to develop the next generation of field leaders. This role anticipates issues, leads through change, and ensures that the project is executed with clarity, professionalism, and operational excellence from mobilization through closeout.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain safety standards - monitor safety planning, execution and documentation on assigned project.
  • Manage project planning - develop and execute the pre-job plan. Determine the construction techniques to be used to construct the project.
  • Develop and maintain the Site Utilization Plan.
  • Manage the preparation of the CPM baseline, monthly CPM schedule updates and narratives, and CPM fragnets with changes and delays.
  • Manage and develop field engineers and assistant superintendents. Orient new personnel to the company and project.
  • Review equipment requirements with the project manager.
  • Review monthly sub pay apps to ensure progress in line with actual work installed.
  • Coordinate, schedule and manage all subcontractors and vendors. Conduct Weekly Subcontractor Coordination Meetings with all onsite or soon to be onsite subcontractor supervision.
  • Expedite vendors and subcontractors on a daily and weekly basis. Identify and resolve construction problems as they develop. Keep the project on schedule.
  • Maintain accurate timekeeping and cost records.
  • Review weekly labor reports and monthly total job cost reports carefully to determine areas needing special attention, and initiate changes and procedures to bring costs back into budget.
  • Comply with all jobsite reporting requirements, including daily reports, SOS, weekly unit reports, weekly updates to the "two-week look-ahead" and monthly updates to the construction schedule.
  • Plan, staff and manage self-performance activities.
  • Manage the Quality Control Program.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly job site.
  • Mitigate all potential subcontractors' change orders and back-charges that may affect project profitability and document them to the extent required.
  • Close out the project in compliance with the contract documents.
  • Strives to satisfy the customer, subcontractor, vendor and company.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • This role requires regular physical activity, including walking, standing for extended periods of time, and working in various outdoor conditions as part of daily field operations. Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather, if needed. This may include climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching. Occasional office work will be required.
  • Occasional heavy lifting (=50 lbs./=22.7 + kg) can be expected, though exertion of up to 10lbs of force is more common.
  • Strong manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment (e.g. computers, mobile devices, copiers, etc.


REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.A. or B.S.in Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture, or equivalent experience 10+ years of Superintendent experience.
  • Safety acumen
  • Experience in scheduling, field supervision, quality control and production of all phases of construction.
