The OpportunityWe are looking for an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Charlotte office and play a key role in its continued growth. You'll lead complex and diverse structural projects, mentor engineers, strengthen client relationships, and help expand Bennett & Pless' presence in the market.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys leading projects and teams while remaining actively involved in structural design. At Bennett & Pless, Project Managers continue to do the engineering work they enjoy while building client relationships, mentoring engineers, and leading projects from concept through completion.
What You'll Do- Lead the design and analysis of structural systems for new construction, renovation, and adaptive reuse projects across multiple market sectors.
- Manage structural engineering projects and lead project teams, ensuring successful delivery through compliance with applicable codes, client requirements, budgets, schedules, and Bennett & Pless QA/QC standards.
- Prepare and review structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, and other project partners throughout all phases of design and construction.
- Perform site visits, structural assessments, investigations, and construction milestone reviews.
- Develop cost-effective engineering solutions, respond to RFIs, and support construction administration activities.
- Mentor and oversee junior engineers and designers by providing technical guidance, coaching, and quality reviews.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- 10+ years of structural engineering experience.
- Experience managing structural engineering projects, leading project teams, and successfully balancing multiple priorities and deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective client and team relationships.
- Experience designing steel and concrete structures, including low- to mid-rise buildings with shallow foundation systems.
- Proficiency with Revit and structural analysis/modeling software used in the design of building structures.
Preferred Qualifications- Master's degree in Structural Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with masonry, high wind/seismic design, wood design, and/or other specialized structural systems.
- Experience supporting business development through proposal development, technical content, or responses to RFQs/RFPs.
