Senior Structural Engineer Location: NYC Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000 annually Industry: Civil Engineering | Transportation | Infrastructure | DOT ProjectsPosition Overview As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will play a critical role in the planning, design, and execution of roadway and highway projects. This position involves design leadership, technical oversight, construction-phase services, and client interaction, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities- Roadway & Highway Design: Develop design solutions for DOT roadway and highway infrastructure projects.
- Project Management Support: Manage project schedules, budgets, technical deliverables, and quality control.
- Construction Phase Services: Provide construction-phase services and technical support during design-build or conventional delivery projects.
- Client Collaboration: Interface with clients to clarify project requirements, resolve challenges, and deliver technical expertise.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs comply with DOT standards, AASHTO guidelines, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and inspectors to deliver integrated solutions.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare technical reports, calculations, plans, specifications, and construction documents.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (ABET-accredited preferred)
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- 4-8+ years of civil engineering experience, including 4+ years in roadway/highway design
- Strong knowledge of DOT standards, practices, and transportation design criteria
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation OpenRoads Designer, HydroCAD/StormCAD, and related civil design software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and construction documentation tools
- OSHA 10-Hour Certification preferred
- Ability to conduct site visits and field inspections in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Skills & Experience - Experience with DOT transportation infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of hydrology, drainage, and stormwater management systems
- Familiarity with design-build and conventional project delivery methods
- Strong client-facing and stakeholder communication skills
