This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Structural Analyst for the Lunar Lander Mechanisms team. As part of a small and hardworking team of engineers, you will be accountable for crew safety and mission success through your design and verification decisions. Your scope will span from mechanism actuators to primary vehicle structure.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment and is comfortable balancing technical risk, schedule pressure, and evolving program needs. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities:

  • Own structural analysisfrom requirements definition through qualification, including assumptions, modeling approach, documentation, and margin closure.

  • Develop, maintain, execute, and validatefinite element models (FEM)at component, subsystem, and vehicle level.

  • Perform structural assessments for environments including:

    • Quasi-static and inertial loads

    • Coupled loads analysis (CLA)

    • Vibration, acoustic, and shock

    • Thermal extremes and transients

  • Create and reviewstress reports and certification artifacts (methods, results, margins, sensitivities).

  • Partner with manufacturing and test to:

    • Define test requirements and acceptance criteria

    • Support hardware builds and resolve nonconformances

    • Drive structural risk reduction via testing and correlation

  • Support rapid design trades (mass, stiffness, frequency, packaging, manufacturability) using hand calculations to provide actionable recommendations early in the design cycle.

  • Mentor junior analysts and contribute to improving team standards, templates, and analysis best practices.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural Engineering, or related field (M.S. preferred).

  • 8+ yearsof professional experience performing structural/stress analysis forspacecraft, aircraft, or similarly rigorous hardware.

  • Demonstrated ability tolead/own analysisfor a complex system through design phases and into qualification.

  • Strong proficiency withFEM development and structural analysis methods, including boundary condition definition, load application, result interpretation, and model validation.

    • Experience with one or more of the following analysis software: Patran/Nastran, Ansys, Femap, Abaqus, Hyperworks, LS-Dyna.

  • Experience creating and modifying geometry in CAD programs (preferably Creo).

  • Experience producingclear, review-ready technical documentation(stress reports, analysis memos, margin summaries) and presenting results at design reviews.

  • Working knowledge ofaerospace structural environmentsand verification approaches (analysis vs. test, correlation, uncertainty factors).

Desired:

  • Experience withaerospace primary structures, mechanisms support structures, and mechanisms.

  • Background in one or more of the following:

    • Dynamics/pyroshock, vibro-acoustics, and CLA workflows

    • Composite structures(sandwich panels, ply-level allowables, failure criteria)

    • Fracture mechanics, damage tolerance, and fatigue (hand calculations, NASGRO, etc.)

    • Electromechanical actuators (motors, gearboxes, shafts)

  • Test correlation experience (modal test correlation, static proof/limit testing, vibe/acoustic correlation).

  • Demonstrated process automation and scripting using Python, MATLAB, etc.


Compensation Range for:

CO applicants is $133,500.00 - $186,898.95 WA applicants is $145,188.00 - $203,263.20
