GFT is seeking a Senior Stormwater Engineer to join our Transportation group in Boston, MA. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance in our Boston, MA office.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

As a Senior Stormwater Engineer, you will shape how communities experience and rely on their infrastructure by designing drainage systems that protect roadways, reduce flooding, and improve water quality while supporting safe and reliable travel. You will lead stormwater design efforts for transportation projects, guiding solutions from concept through permitting and final design, and developing approaches that balance performance, sustainability, and regulatory requirements. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will integrate stormwater systems into roadway designs that serve both the public and the environment. At GFT, you will also mentor junior staff, share technical knowledge, and help strengthen the team’s capabilities, while continuing to grow your own expertise through complex projects that expand your impact and leadership.

 

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Lead stormwater design for transportation projects, developing roadway drainage systems and best management practices that support safe and reliable infrastructure
  • Prepare and oversee stormwater reports and environmental permitting in support of transportation project approvals
  • Design roadway drainage systems using PondPack, StormCAD, and AutoCAD to address flooding, runoff, and water quality
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate stormwater and utility design, including water and sewer systems, into transportation projects
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to junior engineers, supporting individual and team development at GFT
  • Manage project tasks, schedules, and deliverables while ensuring quality, regulatory compliance, and alignment with client expectations
  • Support stormwater design efforts across transportation and broader site development projects as needed

What you'll bring to our firm:

  • 12 – 18 years of relevant experience in stormwater design
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent
  • PE license
  • Experience with environmental permitting and stormwater reports associated with transportation projects
  • Experience with drainage system design for roadways
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Proficient with PondPack
  • Proficient with StormCAD

 

What we prefer you bring:

  • Experience with stormwater design associated with buildings, parking lots, and site developments
  • Experience with leading and mentoring colleagues
  • Experience with utility design including water and sewer
  • Prior supervision of staff
  • Experience with MassDOT on both Design Build and Design Bid Build projects.

 

  • Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $130,000 - $172,500; Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
