Full Job Description
This is a hybrid role requiring two days on-site in the Headquarters office in Woodbridge.
Compensation commensurate with experience $85-90K.

We are seeking a forward-thinking Senior Staff Accountant for Finance Projects to drive operational excellence and support our organization's growth. In this role, you will bridge the gap between traditional accounting and financial technology. You will assist in the design of modern workflows, upgrade existing accounting processes, and build complex financial models to guide strategic decisions. The ideal candidate possesses deep technical GAAP knowledge, experience with accounting projects and advanced Excel. This position assists the Finance leadership team in executing core accounting functions, including financial analysis, reconciliation, general ledger management, journal entry preparation, in addition to strategic finance project implementation. This individual will work closely with leaders across all levels of the organization and play a key role in strengthening financial integrity and reaching strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the design and implementation of scalable financial systems, automated workflows, and internal controls including the evaluation and upgrade existing accounting processes to reduce cycle times, eliminate manual errors, and maximize efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Lead data integrity initiatives by establishing strict system validation checks and data governance rules.
  • Conduct complex financial analysis, perform variance analysis and build executive-level dashboards
  • Research and resolve complex accounting matters, manage fund accounting structures, execute monthly accounting tasks, perform financial reconciliations, and support the production of comprehensive program and branch financial statements.
  • Manage priorities in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Adapt to and lead within a fast-paced, evolving, and sometimes less structured work environment.
  • Produce high-quality documentation for processes, audits, controls, and financial procedures.
  • Travel up to 20% to established and new locations nationwide in support of the above key responsibilities.
Qualifications & Skills
Required Experience & Education
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field AND 5-7 years of progressive experience, with a mix of hands-on operations and financial systems implementation OR equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA preferred.
  • Proven success managing accounting operations, cash, or reconciliations across a headquarters and multiple branches/locations required.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and specialized nonprofit accounting regulations (e.g., net asset classifications, grant tracking) a plus.
Technical Skills
  • Advanced proficiency with mid-to-enterprise level ERPs (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, QuickBooks Enterprise) required
  • Expert Excel skills required
  • Experience with BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) required
  • Strong understanding of how financial platforms connect, transfer data, and utilize APIs to automate manual tasks required.
  • Excellent documentation skills for processes, policies, and financial procedures required
Soft Skills & Core Competencies
  • Ability to guide branch and HQ teams through system changes, design training materials, and overcome user resistance required.
  • Analytical mindset capable of breaking down chaotic, manual workflows into clean, structured processes required.
  • Skillful at translating highly technical accounting, budget variances, or system requirements into plain language for non-finance stakeholders required.
  • Comfortably operating in a dynamic and less structured environment required.
Travel up to 20% to established and new locations nationwide in support of the above key responsibilities.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
  • Able to perform sedentary work including working at a workstation and performing repetitive keyboarding activities.
  • Work will be mostly in a normal office setting. Remote work is an option.
  • Work will require some walking and standing.
  • Able to operate general office equipment. Visual and hearing acuity necessary to operate equipment, use telecommunication, read fine print, and utilize a computer monitor throughout the course of a normal workday.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Some physical effort may be required.
