Job Title: Senior SQL DBA

Responsibilities of the Senior SQL DBA
EDC Consulting LLC (EDC) is seeking a full-time Senior SQL Database Administrator to support U.S Army IT systems in Alexandria, VA. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining SQL Server databases in enterprise environments consisting of approximately 2000 Windows servers. This position will focus on the development and sustainment of SQL Server 2019 Microsoft Failover Clusters, as well as standardizing, consolidating, and optimizing existing SQL Server environments. The Senior SQL DBA will monitor and maintain database performance, collaborate with internal and external customers to gather requirements for special processing, and track issues to resolution using an in-house ticket system.

The Senior SQL DBA will:
  • Design, install, configure, audit, and maintain highly available enterprise database systems.
  • Monitor backups on all SQL Server databases and perform routine disaster recovery testing scenarios.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain database performance, proposing short-term fixes, long-term solutions, and scheduling regular index maintenance and database integrity checks.
  • Establish and maintain database policies and standards and generate database schema definitions and modifications as required.
  • Refresh data from one processing environment to another as needed.
  • Develop, follow, and maintain team documentation for repeatable processes, including database feature installation, disaster recovery, and common problem resolution.
  • Adhere to ITIL practices for Change Management and work through trouble tickets and security audits.

Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of related work experience or Master's degree with 10+ years of related work experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition and all facets of database administration.
  • 3+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server High Availability features: Failover Clustering, Log Shipping, Database Mirroring, AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
  • 3+ years of experience with Windows Server (2016 and higher) and Microsoft Failover Clusters.
  • Installation and configuration experience with SQL Server 2019 (and higher) and SQL Server Cumulative Updates (CUs).
  • Strong database performance tuning skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to be a team player.
  • Participation in 24x7 on-call support rotation.
  • CompTIA Security + Certfied and Microsoft SQL Server Certified.
  • Active Security Clearance
