Full Job Description
Position Function:

This position is responsible for managing a classified loan portfolio of varying complexities that includes secured and unsecured small business and commercial loans, commercial real estate loans, land loans, construction & development loans, income property loans, and private banking lines and loans. The goal is to reduce non-performing and classified loans, minimize loan losses, and maintain compliance with bank and regulatory requirements. The Officer reviews and analyzes necessary information to develop strategy for improving risk rating, reducing principal balance, ensuring adequate collateral coverage, and limiting loan losses. Responsibilities also include overseeing and determining non-accrual status loans, troubled debt restructuring (TDR) loans, charge-off recommendations, impairment reserve calculations, and collection on charged-off loans.

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Improve Asset Quality Through Accurate Risk Assessment and Loan Management
    • Reviews and accurately analyzes all necessary information to understand the underlying risk associated with a workout loan and borrower.
    • Possesses strong understanding of loan underwriting and structuring that meets the bank and regulatory requirements.
    • Responsible for obtaining current financial information from the borrower/guarantor, spreading financial statements, monitoring covenant compliance, performing proforma financial performance, and calculating debt service cash flow, loan-to-value and other standard ratios. Ensures loan modifications and defaults are addressed in a timely manner.
    • Completes written credit approval requests to support recommended course of action such as workout strategies, charge-offs, or resolution for loans, in a timely manner.
    • Works with internal and external legal counsel to document loan workouts including collecting loans through litigation for foreclosure, liquidation of assets, deed-in-lieu, short sales, and obtaining judgments against borrowers and guarantors as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimize losses.
    • Ensures loan documentation and booking are accurate, and payments and reimbursements are processed correctly on both customer and bank accounts.
    • Works with receivers, commissioners, and/or trustees in protecting the bank's position in foreclosure and bankruptcy cases.
    • Provides recommendation on bidding strategies, including due diligence of potential risks associated with the bank taking title to assets and/or properties.
    • Works and communicates with third party investors on the negotiation of note sales.
    • Follows up on collection of charged off loans to maximize loan recoveries.
    • Ensures compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements as it relates to the preparation of reports for impairment reserve calculations.
  • Policy & Compliance
    • Ensures timely intake of classified loans and completion of due diligence that meets policy and procedure guidance including current collateral valuation, documentation review, compliance check, and site inspections.
    • Ensures credit and documentation files and other loan related information including billing invoices are maintained in an organized and complete manner in Info-Access and the department's shared drive.
    • Ensures loans are managed in accordance with bank policy and regulatory guidance.
    • Ensures proper designation of Accrual, Non-Accrual, and TDR status, and risk ratings are properly identified and input in loan systems.
  • Loan Reporting
    • Ensure periodic reports are completed and reported in a timely manner to management including: Asset Quality Reports, Impairment Reserve calculations, Charge-off requests, and Non-Accrual/Accrual Status requests.
  • Projects and Staff Oversight
    • Participates in projects, including training of staff and implementation of new processes, policies, and procedures.
    • Develops and trains associates, underwriters, and specialists in the department.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited 4-year university, preferably in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.


Experience:
  • 8+ years of experience in multi-field lending and/or credit, collections, loss mitigation, or loan workout experience required. Rarely requires performance oversight required.
  • Experience in commercial lending and/or real estate development preferred.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to perform light physical work and to move or lift items including but not limited to boxes, files and papers up to 20 pounds unless otherwise as indicated.
  • Must be able to operate and proficiently use standard office equipment, including phone, copier, personal computer and/or other work related mechanical or electronic devices and applications.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate verbally and in writing with all internal and external customers. Must also be able to hear sufficiently to engage in daily discussions and interactions.
  • Must be able to read and understand bank-related documents.
  • Must be able to work in a conventional office setting, involving sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods of time. Must also be able to adapt to different work environments as needed to perform the job.
