Full Job Description
We9re looking for a Principal Business Analyst to shape how we manage credit for our existing customers, reporting to the Senior Director, Portfolio Management.

The impact you9ll make:

For a lot of our customers, getting their Mission Lane credit card is the first step toward building their credit. But what comes next is where the real progress happens: earning a higher credit line or a better rate, or qualifying for a second card.

As a Principal Business Analyst, you design the strategy that decides who9s ready for that next step, and what it should look like. The skill is building criteria that read how someone9s managed what they already have, then account for how a change like that would ripple through the rest of their account. Get that right, and more people keep moving forward toward their goals.

As Principal Business Analyst, you will:
  • Lead efforts to decide who qualifies for more credit, a second card, or better terms, and how we make those calls
  • Use AI-driven tools to speed up and sharpen your analysis
  • Adjust our approach as customer behavior and the market change
  • Turn financial data into clear recommendations that grow the business while managing risk responsibly
  • Run small tests in market, then use what you learn to decide where we invest next
  • Work with product, data science, engineering, and capital markets to bring your ideas to life
  • Share your strategy and results directly with senior leadership

You9ll thrive in this role if:
  • You understand the whole card business system, from acquisition to risk to engagement, and you can trace how a change in one part ripples through the rest.
  • You9re curious enough to dig into the reasoning behind your own analysis, down to the assumptions it9s built on, so you understand it at an elemental level
  • You take ownership of your work end to end, catching your own mistakes before they compound.
  • You can explain a business problem clearly enough that someone outside your immediate team could follow your thinking.

Minimum qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience in a highly analytical role
  • A bachelor9s or master9s degree in economics, finance, engineering, mathematics, or a similarly quantitative field, with a strong academic record
  • A track record of solving open-ended business problems: framing the question, forming a hypothesis, working through the data, and defending your recommendation to stakeholders
  • Comfort working in SQL, Python, or similar tools for data analysis
  • Ability to travel ~4-6+ times per year for high quality in-person collaboration

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience working with credit cards or other consumer lending products
  • Experience helping scale a business in a fast-moving startup environment
  • Strong SQL or Python skills
  • Experience using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, etc.)

Compensation:

Annual full-time starting base salary range: $118,000-$135,000

This role is eligible for additional compensation in the forms of participation in our annual incentive and equity programs.

Pay is based on factors such as work experience, education, certification(s), training, skills, and competencies related to the role. Mission Lane also offers a comprehensive benefits plan, which includes paid time off, 401(k) match, a monthly wellness stipend, health/dental/vision insurance options, disability coverage, paid parental leave, flexible spending account (for childcare and healthcare), life insurance, and a remote-first work environment.

Application Integrity:

Our cardholders trust us with their financial well-being, and this trust starts with the integrity of the people on our team. We9re looking for team members who share our dedication to transparency and truth. Please verify that the information in your application is accurate and complete.

Providing any information to Mission Lane that is not completely truthful at any point during the application or hiring process may result in removal from the hiring process, disqualification from future opportunities, withdrawal of an offer or other sanctions for candidates and, in addition for employees, disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

About Mission Lane

LendUp was an American online direct lender. It offered payday loans, installment loans, and credit cards to consumers with low credit scores using publicly available data to assess creditworthiness. The company referred to its customers as “the emerging middle class.” LendUp also issued credit cards in partnership with Tom Steyer's Beneficial State Bank. LendUp was co-founded by in 2011 by stepbrothers Sasha Orloff and Jake Rosenberg and incubated at Y Combinator. The company positioned itself as a "socially responsible lender," and claimed to provide access to financial services for "underbanked" Americans in addition to lower cost credit and credit-building opportunities. LendUp received $325 million in equity and debt financing from PayPal, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Google Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, Alexis Ohanian, Y Combinator and QED Investors, among others. In an article published shortly after the company's launch, Time Magazine wrote that LendUp "says it’s not like other payday lenders. Yet the fees it charges — a little over $30 to borrow $200 for two weeks — are similar to what its competitors charge." In 2016, LendUp paid $6.3 million in fines for deceptive practices and widespread violations of payday and installment loan laws. In 2016 it was again sued by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for violating the Military Lending Act.
