What you'll be doing

• Design and develop core features of the Roku Operating System (OS) application framework.
• Contribute to the development of new software features and resolution of software defects within the code base.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Development, UI Design, Platform Services, and Release Management to support Roku's overall application development initiatives.
• Analyze user needs, identify root causes of technical issues, and apply debugging tools to implement solutions.
• Develop software using C++ and BrightScript technologies.
• Implement efficient algorithms to support parsing and rendering of data from the Roku network.
• Investigate, diagnose, and resolve issues within the Roku platform, utilizing JIRA for issue tracking and agile project management.
• Participate in design discussions, contribute to specifications, and develop scalable business solutions that optimize system performance and operational efficiency.

You are required to have

• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 5 years of progressive experience in the position or a related occupation.
• Will also accept Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience in the position or a related occupation.
• Must have at least 3 years of prior work experience in the following:
  1. Embedded systems based on Linux operating system.
  2. C++ programming and Python scripting language.
  3. Front-end application development for embedded devices.
  4. Data structure and algorithm implementation.
  5. Agile software development and JIRA bug tracking tools.
  6. Design and architecture of complex software systems.
  7. API design considerations and tradeoffs.
  8. Debugging of complex systems.
  9. Performance optimization, memory management, and multi-threaded development.
  10. Peer code reviews; writing unit, integration, and functional tests.
  11. Diagnosing, investigating, and resolving production issues.
  12. CI/CD tooling using GitLab and Jenkins.
  13. Experience with software design patterns.
  14. Experience developing SDKs, APIs, or developer tools.
  15. Consumer Electronics and media codecs, streaming experience.
