Full Job Description
Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer you will be one of the founding engineers on the Navigators team within Teacher & Learning Explorations. You will work across the seam where four mature products meet one shared discovery layer: designing the contracts between them, packaging their capabilities so they can be composed, and making search and curation work as one experience rather than four. You will be making it fast and intuitive for admins to govern and curate, for teachers to find and instruct, and for students to explore and grow their respective libraries.

In this role, as a Senior Software Engineer you will:
  • Design and own the contracts between the Libraries and the four products - OpenAPI interfaces, typed message schemas, and the versioning discipline that keeps breaking changes from becoming someone else's outage.
  • Build the discovery layer - search, relevance, and retrieval across a large and heterogeneous content library.
  • Create and maintain continuous delivery pipelines for code, infrastructure, configuration, and data.
  • Evolve the engineering culture, standards, and best practices - security, governance, new ideas - within the team, and help us decide the stack questions that are still open.

Qualifications

For this role, you must have:
  • Substantial professional experience building and operating production backend services.
  • Strong TypeScript, or strong proficiency in a comparably typed language and a genuine willingness to work in a strict-TypeScript codebase.
  • Demonstrated ownership of API contracts in a multi-service system: designing them, versioning them, and testing against them.
  • Cloud operations depth - you can design infrastructure, not only consume it, and you write infrastructure as code (we use Terraform on AWS).
  • Release engineering depth - you have built and maintained continuous delivery pipelines and reduced toil in build and release systems.
  • An effective communicator who collaborates well with distributed engineering, product, and design teams, and can explain a technical trade-off to a non-technical audience.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and raising the level of the people around you.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience.

Additional information

All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.

Salary Range: The base range for this position is $109,500.00 - $150,550.00. This range is based on national market data and may vary by experience and location.
