Title:

Senior Software Engineer

Job Summary
The Senior Software Engineer supports software development and integration activities for advanced weapon system programs, with responsibility for ensuring software products meet technical, schedule, and mission requirements. This position oversees prime contractor software development efforts across multiple software baselines and provides technical leadership throughout the software lifecycle, including requirements definition, design reviews, testing, verification, validation, and release activities. The role partners with program office, engineering, test, and contractor teams to ensure software performance aligns with system-level objectives and flight readiness requirements. Success in this position requires disciplined technical execution, effective coordination across diverse stakeholders, and attention to technical compliance throughout development and sustainment activities. The engineer contributes to program planning and execution by supporting software budgets, technical risk management, and product delivery milestones.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Oversee software development activities across multiple software versions to ensure alignment with program objectives, technical requirements, and delivery schedules.
  • Review and assess software and firmware requirements, architecture, design artifacts, and technical documentation produced by prime contractors.
  • Support development and maintenance of Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) deliverables and software program documentation.
  • Coordinate software budget planning, execution tracking, and technical assessments in support of program objectives.
  • Evaluate software safety compliance activities and ensure adherence to applicable standards, processes, and program requirements.
  • Support Formal Qualification Testing (FQT), test planning, execution reviews, issue resolution, and assessment of test results.
  • Participate in Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) activities to verify software performance, functionality, and compliance with requirements.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, integration, test, and operational stakeholders to identify and mitigate technical risks.
  • Support final software materiel release activities and provide technical recommendations related to system flight readiness.
  • Other duties as assigned in support of mission and business requirements.

Basic Qualifications
  • BA/BS in mathematics, engineering, computer science, or other related field and 12 years of progressive, related experience.
  • U.S. citizenship and a Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting software development lifecycle activities, including requirements, design, implementation, testing, and release.
  • Experience reviewing technical documentation, software design products, and engineering deliverables.
  • Experience supporting verification, validation, qualification testing, or software certification activities.
  • Experience supporting missile, aviation, aerospace, or defense systems programs.
  • Experience with embedded software or real-time system development environments.
  • Knowledge of software safety standards and software assurance methodologies.
  • Experience supporting contractor oversight within a government program office environment.
  • Familiarity with Agile development processes, configuration management practices, and requirements traceability tools.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical reviews and engineering assessments.
