Position Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer within PNC's Lending Tech organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh PA or Dallas TX.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Java-based application development, microservices architecture, and API engineering, with a strong focus on backend system design, performance, scalability, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise-grade backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Build and support scalable, secure, and resilient microservices-based architectures.
  • Design and develop RESTful APIs and service integrations that support internal and external business applications.
  • Collaborate with architects, product owners, business analysts, and engineering teams to deliver technical solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • Lead the technical design and implementation of complex software initiatives.
  • Drive coding best practices, design standards, and code review activities.
  • Optimize application performance, scalability, and operational stability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues while implementing long-term solutions.
  • Participate in Agile development processes, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to the technical growth of the engineering team.
  • Support DevOps and CI/CD processes to streamline software delivery and deployment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Java
    • Spring Boot
    • Microservices Architecture
    • RESTful API Development
    • Backend Application Development
  • Experience developing distributed, high-throughput, and highly available systems.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles and design patterns.
  • Experience with application performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.


Nice-to-Have Qualifications
  • Experience working in cloud-based environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar event-driven architectures.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and DevOps practices.
  • Experience working within financial services, banking, or highly regulated industries.
  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and influence engineering best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.


  • Provides detailed technical design and development of software solutions using existing and emerging technology platforms.
  • Proposes & designs software solutions to address complex business needs.
  • Writes code, tests and deploys software.
  • Prepares technical and procedural documentation required for software.
  • Maintains and debugs software.
