Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack (Java & Kafka) (Cloud Operations Resilience Engineering)

We are seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to join our Messaging Platforms team. You will be responsible for the design, deployment, and operational health of our enterprise solution, which serves as a mission-critical platform for handling all event-management at Capital One.

The Cloud Operations Resilience Engineering (CORE) Technology division is responsible for enabling and evolving Capital One’s foundational cloud infrastructure layer, including observability, connectivity, resilience and availability.

What You’ll Do: 

  • Develop end user API: Lead the design, development, and maintenance of our developer APIs for kafka developer tooling, work with Java and Spring framework refactoring code for compliance and adding features as required

  • Automation & Scalability: Engineer robust solutions and automated CI/CD pipelines to streamline code deployments

  • Operational Excellence: Drive system reliability by leading incident management, defining technical requirements, and monitoring key performance metrics to ensure platform health.

  • High-Volume Support: Provide dedicated support for our shared Kafka Platform and its related API services, proactive troubleshooting, and rapid production issue resolution.

  • Security & Cloud Infrastructure: Code with spring-security and deploy cloud-native deployments on Openshift, implementing enterprise-grade security standards (mTLS, JWT, and KMS)

  • Core Technical Leadership: Utilize your expertise in Java, Kafka, Kubernetes, and observability tools like Datadog to build, secure, and optimize our platform

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • At least 3+ years of experience in software engineering (Internship experience does not apply)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in Java programming language

  • 5+ years of experience working with open-source frameworks, specifically the Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC)

  • 3+ years of experience with enterprise messaging and event-streaming platforms, including Apache Kafka and IBM WebSphere MQ

  • 3+ years of experience implementing and managing CI/CD tools and deployment pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions)

  • 2+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service

  • 2+ years of experience in Agile practices (Scrum or Kanban)

  • Experience leveraging interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity, utilizing capabilities beyond basic code completion

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
